TSA Locks, either a key lock (cheaper) or combination type.

Try your local Tesco first, or if not go to a specialist travel shop/store (Boots will have them). Try not to leave it until the airport because although they sell them, they can be expensive.

Leave case unlocked and then secure with a TSA approved strap with a combination lock. My suitcase opened about 40% of visits and alsways relocked.

If you buy a Sentry lock - which are TSA approved, they can open your suitcase for a random or specific check with a Master Key.
They are available online- Magellans sell them in the UK. Do not leave your suitcases unlocked.
If the TSA open your suitcase they are required to leave a notice inside informing you of the reason..

I'm travelling to New York next month and didn't want to risk an unlocked suitcase, so I bought two Sentry locks yesterday from John Lewis, they were about £6 each. They do seem like good solid locks.

Trouble with cable ties is that if TSA cut them off to inspect your suitcase will then go on it's way unlocked...

Was just about to say the same. A friend had the ties on her case cut off leaving New York, the case arrived in London with quite a few things missing.

Same thing happened to my Wife at Washington Dulles. A brand new bottle of perfume didn't fancy the journey from DC to London it seemed....

My £5 bottle of Next Dimension was there though :rofl
