I was over for a week in april and a week in June. I purchased a £10 Cypriot Pay as you talk SIM card (Areeba) when I arrived in April, made lot's of lengthy calls to UK, Portugal and countless Cypriot land lines and mobile lines. Still had £2 credit when I left!! Areeba is similar to So Easy, take your pick they are both extremly cheap in comparison to UK mobile calls.

Will Orange pay as you go work in Cyprus? I know the other year you could only use pay monthly but wondered if that has now changed.

Yes i can also confirm that you can use your mobile, my mum was payg and had no problems. I had a bit of a problem as half the time the net work was working and half not. You can buy phone cards over there which keep costs down and are very cheap with loads of minutes.

Thanks for that folks, they must have sorted the system, at one time there was no coverage for pay as you go. Great to know that work will be able to pester me for the 2 weeks I'm away.
Cheers.
Mark.

Chris there are a couple of threads on this but as usual when I'm looking for something............. I'll keep trying though.
In the meantime yes you can use phone cards over there, the ones you buy here can be used in Cyprus.
You can also get a Cyta sim card for your phone for abou £15, sooooooo cheap to phone home. I'll keep hunting the thread.

                Hi All,
As we are away for 4 weeks in Sept/Oct, can anyone tell me the cheapest way to use two mobiles in Cyprus. Mostly calling each other in Cyprus ( as in 'which pub are you in, and when are you leaving it? )

Did try the Search button, but couldn't find what I wanted.
Cheers,
Janet

                Hi Jinty
As you are there for four weeks, it might be worth purchasing Cyprus SIM cards. This is what I have done. Calling each other then costs pennies. Literally. Oh, OK "cents". Texts cost 9/10 of nothing too

SIM cards are CY£15 and include CY£3 of credit. They can be bought from pretty much any kiosk or supermarket.
Make sure that your phone is unlocked first though. You may be able to do it through this website as I did. Seems Nokias are easiest to unlock.

As mentioned peviously, but I'd recommend whatever your length of stay buying a CYP SIM card from most supermarkets.
Used to take my UK mobile and it would cost 67p for a text plus pay for incoming calls, voicemail etc.. My usual monthly bill would triple over two weeks.
Text messages to UK are virtually free. Couldn't be easier, just remember to get your phone unlocked in the UK for about £10.

Thanks for the advice folks, as it's coming nearer (next Tues) can I ask another couple of questions?
I've been given a number: 08719900867 which if my family dial this no. then the Sim Card no. which I purchase in Cyprus, it seems it is much cheaper if they want to contact me.
Anyone used this service?
Cheers,
Janet
