Hi tonyt and peter. I can fly from any midlands airport. Balkan are the only company thay I can find that go to Golden Sands. First Choice and the rest of them only seem to want you to go to Sunny Beach.

paul, how brave are you. You could try Manchester to Sofia on Air BG £175 rtn in June 2009, then coach with Bio-Met, 3 a day to Albena, dropping at Golden Sands 60lev rtn (2008 prices) or there are 12 a day to Varna at 50lev rtn, book a hotel yourself. If you want the train Timetable, Sofia to Varna, can do. Tonyt

There are lots of hotels in Golden Sands in the Balkan brochure.

We love this resort but it seems Balkan are not doing an Edinburgh flight now. We can fly from Glasgow but Balkan dont fly into Varna which is the nearest airport. It would mean flying to Bourgas and its approx 2- 3 hour transfer (at least) which puts us off.

I am sure I checked Thomson and Thomas Cook previously and think they just fly to Bourgas as well.

Its a pity cos the coach transfer from Varna to Bourgas will put a lot of people off.

Hi morh we used to be lucky with the choice from Balkan ,as we had either Edinburgh ,or Newcastle now as you say no flights from Edinburgh but still got Newcastle which was cheaper than Edinburgh .So hope they dont do away with this airport too.June

BAA to sell one Scottish airport. Wonder which one will survive???

It appears that Balkan have dropped flights from many UK airports. Some booked for winter ski holidays to Plovdiv have now been told that fly into Sofia/ This summer flights to Varna changed to Bourgas and a transfer of approx 2 hours or more. Flights booked from Newcastle, ok, but it is normal practise for Balkan to pick up at other Uk airports en route, maybe Belfast or even Cardiff!!! This is what the Balkan reps call ' a double touch' and sometimes passengers are not told this until they board the plane!
Just hope that this is not another holiday company in trouble?????

Hi, according to the news, all Balkan flights from UK to Plovdiv have been diverted to Sofia for the Winter schedule. Tonyt.
