more from the local rag - as usual lacking too much detail, it seems to be just just a moan out of frustration and probably done to fill some space in the paper.

Now 'rushing to finish it' before March 2011 so that they can welcome 12,000 Austrian tourists !?

Nothing really new. Some low cost airlines showing 'real interest' at using the new airport. Not sure whats happening to the 12,000 Austrian tourists in March !

Good news Castellon airport was officially opened on 25th March 2011, well that was the date of the official ceremony, but they can't operate yet as the necessary licenses have yet to be issued.
One day aeroplanes carrying passengers might be able to land and take off from there!!

Just returned from the Costa Azahar, all road infrastructure in place...signs to the airport etc etc....yet no flights??? I got talking to a Spanish guy in a bar who laughed about it and said when the "incentives" to the "owners" become big enough...then it may open up!!!

We drove to the airport last time we were here and yes everything is now complete. Last weeks local paper reported that the authorities are in talks with seven airlines (it named 6 including Ryanair). It spoke about incentives to the airlines to bring tourists to the region.

I'm sure that eveyone will be delighted to know that the regional government in Comunidad Valenciana have agreed the budget for pest control for the airport: 8 falcons and eight ferrets, to be available for at least 6 hours per day 365 days a year. The projected cost for a three year concession : a whopping 456,521€.

Still no sign of any planes though....

More delays to allow changes to conform to new European laws. Airport 'opened' last year (for what?) and now they need to demolish and rebuild 'turning areas' on the runway before they get the necessary permissions to fly.
