Hi, have just booked flights for 30th August next year,at £164 for two people it was too good to miss. Now we have to decide which resort to go to.Have narrowed it down to probrably Alcudia or Santa Ponsa. If anybody has been to both could you let me know how they compare to each other. Is Santa Ponsa beach as nice as Alcudia?I know its nowhere near as big. Also we want nightlife but not a rowdy place and we like to get to sleep at night without too much disturbance so if anybody can recommend somewhere that fits the bill I would appreciate any advice.
Cheers Helen
We booked with Jet2 from Manchester
Hi Helen
Have you read the resort reports for ALCUDIA and SANTA PONSA?
They may help with your decision

Helen, Alcudia beach is absolutely beautiful. If you click on the link below you can "walk" along Alcudia beach when you click in the red square.
Also Alcudia would be more "cosmopolitan", for example a lot of Dutch, German Spanish people there on holiday, which (just in my opinion) makes the atmosphere nicer.

But of course its all personal preference, lots and lots of people love Santa Ponsa!
Enjoy your holiday wherever you decide.

Santa Ponsa can be a lively or quiet holiday whatever you want it to be. Beach is lovely plenty of natural shade, plenty of nice places to eat. The big plus over Alcudia is it is only 20 mins max from the airport . I have been to both and prefer Santa Ponsa .(thats when I'm not going to Cala Bona) Big decision!
Are there any good all inclusives in santa ponsa, like the idea of not being too far from airport. Are any of the other resorts near airport.
It all depends on what sort of holiday you are used to. If you want the usual "British Abroad-type" holiday then I believe Alcudia is perfect. However, if you want something more Spanish, with beautiful beaches and restaurants I would always suggest Puerto Pollensa. If you choose Alcudia, take a bus ride to PP to see what it is like. It has the feel of a small resort as the high rises are kept to an absolute minimum. You won't find many "British bars" or Chippys in PP but if that is what you like then fair dinkum.
Kevstar I totally agree that Peurto Pollensa, Cala D'Or, Can Pastilla, Can Picafort......................... and any number of resorts are in my opinion nicer, the only reason I recommended Alcudia was because the poster seemed to be choosing between these two in particular, and of the two mentioned, Alcudia would have been my choice, even though its further from the airport. I personally didnt like Santa Ponsa at all. (I know........just us!!)
If you want near the airport then Can Pastilla is not only very "Spanish" with not a lot of Brits there, but is near enough to all the "livelier" resorts to visit by taxi, so then youve got the best of both worlds!
The beach in Can Pastilla is beautiful also.

Well we have now decided its going to be Alcudia next year and now just have to pick which apartments!Cant get prices for next year yet but we are looking at Viva Tropic,Viva Golf. Paraiso de Alcudia, Los Tamarindos and Sea Club.Bearing in mind there is just the two of us (no kids)any advice on the best option would be appreciated, although what price they come up at will also be a major factor as well.
Cheers Helen

We stayed in the Paraiso in 2004. They are right on the beach and its a beautiful complex. As its an aparthotel you can pay extra on whatever days you want and eat in the complex. The food is very good.
Pool area beautiful and all rooms have a beach view.
Only downfall is that there is only a ceiling fan in both rooms, no air conditioning...........if its July or August you could be frazzled.........however my brother went in June and said they werent too hot then!
Let us know where you finally decide on.

Hello Helen
3 of us - me, wife & son aged 8, have stayed in most resorts on the island.
Last year we stayed in Santa Ponsa & loved it more than any other.
Each resort has its own attraction of course but we enjoyed Santa Ponsa because:
as said above you can enjoy a quiet or lively holiday, fantastic beach, great location - 5 minutes from Magaluf/Palma Nova in a cab, 20 minutes from the fantastic Palma in a cab. The biggest difference we noticed between SP & Alcudia was the quality of restraunts, we never found 1 we enjoyed in Alcudia where as in SP you were spoilt for choice, whether its a cheap pub style meal or quality restraunt it had it all, our favourite was L'oeste.
Where ever you go in Majorca you'll enjoy it, its a superb holiday destination. Good Luck

puerto pollensa for me any time, been to magaluf, palma, palma nova, alcudia+santa ponsa. Dont get me wrong they are all great but like i said puerto pollensa sticks out in my mind. Great boat trips to Cala San Vicente and Formentor well worth trying and only a 10 minute bus ride to Alcudia. We stayed at the Hotel Club Pollentia which is just outside Puerto Pollensa. The only downfall is you need to catch a short bus ride 4 minutes max to Puerto Pollensa beach if stopping at Hotel Club Pollentia. Nice bars, Resturants and a lovely harbour next to a promenade which is called the pine walk.
Iv heard Santa Ponsa being nicknamed "Bally Ponsa" because it is apparently so full of Irish (from North and South)
Is it really that bad?
Dont get me wrong - Ireland is great - I live here. I just don't want to feel like half the country has come with me on my holiday.
