Hi,
Does anyone have a rough idea how much money to take away with us? We ( 2 adults, 2 kids under 7) are going for 2 weeks all-inclusive at the new Holiday Village, Red Sea next July. I know it sounds like a simple question but we have never been to Egypt so don't know what the prices are like and we have never been all-inclusive so we are really stuck!!
Any help would be gratefully received!

As you have two little people with you I am sure most of your time will be at the resort. Whether we like it or not, we are as parents tied to the wishes of the kids and I can not see them being interested in going shopping, dining and wining in Naama Bay, visiting Cairo or St Catherine or whatever. Thus you could spend a lovely two weeks around the pool and by the sea and spend almost nothing as the all inclusive will ceratinly cover all your basic needs for food and drink. You may want to venture out a little, buy a few pressies and maybe get a few important things that you might have forgotten... suncream, film, batteries etc etc
If this is so you could easily survive on GBP 100 - 150 for the whole family for the whole stay !

Seriously, all I would add to his advice is that, usually, and hotels often differ, the laundry service in Egypt is quite cheap and a "godsend" for mums who don't want to be stringing up clothes to dry on the balcony or wherever, every day. You may therefore find that you need to allow a sum of money for this. We always have our stuff laundered just before we come home so it can go away without having to wash, wash, wash for the first few days at home.
My other point is that the last thing you want to run out of in Egypt is suncream! It is very expensive to buy almost anywhere in Egypt and well worth taking too much with you. Especially for the young ones.

And the hotel will most likely allow you to charge most extras like out of hours drinks and such that aren't on your AI deal to the room. so a credit card to pay with on the last day might be all you need. Except a little cash for a few tips for your favourites among the hotel staff.

Thank you all so much for taking the time to reply. I really don't think we will be straying (unfortunately) from the resort because of the kids. I was actually thinking about £500 plus so that really helps. the laundry service sounds ideal for busy young mums!

Dont put more than 6 items in the laundry at a time..... it s hard to keep track.... things can go missing.
My Ex had his trousers taken...... I had bought them for him.... we saw the laundry guy wearing them, and he got them back a day late!!! they had "lost them"!!!! Same with distinctive shirts.... mind you this was the laundry in Naama, not a hotel....
As for shopping.... best buys, camels, crystals, herbs and spices, nuts and silver and gold. You can live on £10 a day for extras.... but the kids might appreciate a trip to KFC or Pizza Hut or Hardrock.... they will be welcome and its much cheaper than UK! Check whgether your hotel has a jetty or not... you might need pool shoes for the kids.. coral gives bad cuts.

Brilliant tips thanks! We will be staying in the new Holiday Village in Sharm and it's on the sea - now that i have heard that i will look out for jelly shoes for them. The kids will be 4 and 7 and if they cut their foot we will never hear the end of it! Also i have heard the fish in the sea bite as they are used to being fed so shoes are a definate. The junk food shops are also a definate option for the kids as well as the other half! Really helps thanks! Apparently it's right next door to the Coral Sea - any tips on that?

I have to say that in what must be approaching 50 loads of washing sent to the laundry in Egyptian hotels and cruise boats over the years, we have only ever "lost" one pair of thongs and even then we received a pair of "big knickers" in quite good nick in return! 
The purpose of the jelly shoes is not just to stop cut feet but it also helps protect against the nasty little spiny fish or sea urchins which can be accidentally trodden on. I wouldn't worry over much about biting fish, it's not an "every day" occurrence.

Yes Mr. Parsons, they do press your laundry as well. They will also just press the creases out if you do not require the clothes to be washed.

The laundry in Delta Sharm took great delight in putting all my lacy knickers and nighties on the top of a see through bag..... we hads been to see my ex's family and had 5 days washing between us....
Being egyptian.... he complained..... "I don't want all of Delta to see your everythings!!!!" It still makes me laugh now. :

What kind of price can we expect to pay for a laundry service? I'm relishing the prospec of getting home and all my ironing and washing is alredy done!
In central Sharm, its about 2-3 egp per item.
In hotels it varies, they all set their own tarrif. Io haven't used a hotel service (don't stay in hotels)

These look similar prices to those I remember from the Nuweiba Hilton, Pippy.
I'm definitely going to take fewer clothes next year and use the laundry service, worth every penny!
