Whenever we have stayed in the Calangute area, we usually go to the Souza Lobo for our Lobster dishes.

Intending to visit Panjim and have a meal at The Delhi Durbar having read some good reports on this forum. Could anyone tell me if there is a dress code at the restaurant as I've heard it's a 'bit upmarket' and I never normally 'dress for dinner' in Goa and also is it open all day or just in the evening? Thanks in advance. Lenny

Hi, one of my favourite places to eat - BomSuccesso - never had a bad meal yet, it is very clean and the staff and owners cannot do enough to to make you welcome, and they always remember you when you go back. I love the variety of fish dishes and it is fresh from the market everyday. My fella enjoys the Sports bar upstairs where you can watch all the live footy games, with air con. and also pool tables.
I would recommend you try and judge for yourself!!

It's about 50yards from Candolim crossroads (heading towards Aguada) - food okay but nothing special,Gala night on Thursdays (if they still do them) live music and firework display.

Strange, the Bom Successo has changed all its staff since I last went (three years ago) and now has a completly new (and better) menu.

Am hopelessly addicted to After Seven, but just tried out Roma, a new Italian restaurant on Holiday Street, next to Little Italy. Prices are decent, though the wine is ridiculously expensive for some pretty ordinary selection and there are only 4 wines to choose from anyway - 2 reds, 2 whites and about Rs. 1800 - 2000 per bottle. Loved the garlic bread - yummmmy! And the ravioli was very good. My friend had pork in peach sauce - the pork was very nice, best I have ever eaten in Goa, and from the taste of it, did not seem to be local pork - :wink:. The peach sauce was pretty minimal, and not very generous. And oh yes, do try the papaya-lemon-honey sorbet - wow, worth going back for more. Give the lemon sorbet a miss though - too tart to swallow.

Tried the After Seven in Dec, and just want to say that the meal i had there was sublime! Excellent food, paired with some really great wine - I have not seen such an extensive wine list anywhere else in Goa (some wines seem to be more than I can afford, but on holiday it seems ok to deplete your bank balance, somehow). The entire exeperience, eating out under the stars, with great music, great food (steaks with baked potatoes), great wine (Chateauneuf du Pape), and creme brulee to follow, was perfect. All of us, who can compare our experience with some of the world's best restaurants, agreed that it was the best evening that we had. So not sure about the restuarant being overpriced and overrated - for us it was not. But I concede that others may have seen another side. But thats what makes this forum so great! We can share our moments of 'truth'!
And on the same subject, we tried out Cactus Shepherd's Pie - where we found that the fish rolls had more flour than fish and they had run out of beef at 730pm that evening, so we could not try 30% of the dishes. No real great ambience, and found that even the Goan sausage was tough and stringy. Will avoid eating here in future, but will deffy go here for some drinking, a kingfisher beer at Rs 45 or so (big bottle) is nice, nice, nice!
Went to Viva Goa too, and asked to go to the loo before ordering, as my outlook on the world was pretty dim, being under great pressure. Pretty bad, and close to the kitchen which is very unhygienic - the kitchen, I mean. Put me off entirely. Walked out of loo, and under tremendous pressure (no smiles here!), convinced unsympathethic other half to take me to some place else. So off we went to After Seven, where the toilets are to die for. A paradise for any woman - in fact, I just posted the info under the thread 'Good Toilets Guide'
Oh by the way, met the courteous Leo at After Seven, whom I asked about Posh, as we were keen to try it out. There has been a delay in the restoration process - they are restoring a 150 year old Portuguese villa at Nerul and want to do it carefully. He is hopeful about opening in another 2 or 3 weeks, so when I go back to Goa, will check it out again.

We've always had excellent lobster thermidour (sp?) at Capricorn in Calangute. It's on the road that leads from the roundabout, near Redunda, down to the beach steps. Also, their spicy chicken balls are to die for!!

Ronaldo190172 happens to be my OH, and we just love the food in Goa. Some of our favorite restaurants include La Terrasse in Baga, they have the most juicy fantastic steaks I have ever tasted, Kim Faa for awsome crispy aromatic duck, and finally Why Not Prajot's for the ultimate in burgers and breakfasts.

Ohh damn all this talk of food is making me hungry now, and all this reading of goa is making me homesick.

Just been reading your posting about La Terasse in Baga. I heard yesterday that it had closed down (won't print the reason why on here for fear of getting HT in trouble). Anyway I went over to check it out today and it's true............sign outside says "CLOSED, THE END".

You'll have to find an alternative restaurant for a good steak next time you visit Goa.

oh no! I was looking forward to trying La Terrasse when we go in 10 days! cant now can I.......is their beach shack La Plage still up and running anyone know?

La Terasse isn't (or should I say wasn't) owned by the same people that own La Plage.
La Plage at Aswem and Le Restaurant Francais (off the Baga Rd) are both owned by a guy called Serge and both are still open.

it seems i am getting confused
I knew it was something French!!

We had an absolutely dreadful meal at "Just Chinese" in Candolim. We had called in the night before to ask Dennis to get us some Red Snapper.

When we got there the fish was presented to us, it looked great, until we tried to cut into it, when we found it was frozen and raw!!!! When we complained he said he would provide a different meal, and that he wouldn't charge us for the fish. Bloody cheek. We had to pay the full price for the replacement meal. They didn't get a tip.

When we were in Seashell the next night, we spotted Sanjay who had used to work at Just Chinese. We told him about the fish and he laughed, he said he wouldn't go into detail about why he had left, but it had a lot to do with Dennis and his methods. We will never go into Just Chinese ever again.

You must try "Ku" - there is nothing else like it in Goa! North or South!

It's worth going just to look at the building - it's fantastic!
