Day trips can be booked with local operators most if not all are based in the old city "Kalieci"
Probably better to arrange through your tour operator.
Not sure about public transport but I feel fairly confident that the Dolmus runs from that area into the city. If so it will be a frequent service probably running from about 7am to 10 pm.
I think that a taxi will cost around 20 lira.

Thanks for your help appollo. anywhere that you reccommend to visit
Pammukale, the cotton cliffs is an interesting place to visit. Alongside them is the roman ruins of Heiropolis. They are near Denizli which is around 3.5 hours from Antalya.
Tour companies often combine this with a visit to Ephesus this then becomes a two day trip.
The chimera at Olympos is a good evening visit. This can be combined ewith a day visit to Phaselis and or Adrasan. About 2 hours from Antalya.
More roman ruins.
Hope this helps a bit
