Hi,
there is a kids club during the day and also the children are well catered for entertainment wise in the evening. I'm sure your kids will have a whale of a time. Depending on the time of year you're going , it goes without saying that they'll have to be well protected from the heat. We stayed at the Merengue but spent a fair bit of our time at the Bachata. We had a brill holiday.

Hi Pudsey, my husband took long trousers but only wore them once, they are quite relaxed in the restaurant, just no football tops, bikini tops etc. You do need long trousers to go in casino, you can go in snack bar during day wearing just about anything. Cant really think of any don'ts i would say be careful when going in the sea, we took some beach shoes as its quite rocky. One do i would recommend is to get your tourist card before you go to avoid the big queue ! We gave our maid a most welcome $1 tip each day and gave her sample cosmetics etc. You will have a fantastic time its the best holiday i've ever had, the staff are so helpful, they will do anything for you.

Hi,

We have never been to dominican republic before, but I have been looking on the Thomsons website and the prices for the above two hotels are really good for 14 nights. Their sale ends tonight and I am really tempted to book it especially at the prices quoted. What I wanted to ask is that their is about £130.00 difference between the bachata and Mambo for a family of 4 (kids are 14 and 11) is it worth paying the extra for the Bachata? Also we are looking at travelling the first two weeks in July, will the weather be ok or can we expect hurricanes, thunderstorms at this time of the year. Also would you recommend this hotel for a teenager and and 11 year old?

Lastly I recalled seeing somewhere on this site some weeks ago that their was a thomsons discount code that could be used when booking, but cannot find it now, if anyone knows where this is could they let me know, although you probably can't use it with the sale prices

Any replies will be gratefully received.

Thanks

Hi gillygreeny,

Could you answer a couple of questions please:-

What Jabs are required?

Did you have any children in your party and if so what did they think as we have an 11 and a 7 year old with us both girls.

Where can you get the tourist card from is it the post office??

:D hi ymac,
we went to dom rep in aug. 2004 and stayed at the merengue, quite frankly i'd save the £130 as these three hotels are fab 5* facilities, and whilst you will have to sleep and take your evening meal at the your specific hotel everything else you can do as and where you please on the complex.

it truly is the best holiday we have had.

Hi Pudsey, We didn't have children with us but did see lots when we were there, the entertainments team have things going allday about 10am to 10pm, waterpolo, beach volleyball, dancing etc, I think there will be lots for the children to enjoy. I don't have children myself but i would be happy to take them to bachata if i did its very child friendly. We had tetanus, hep A, diptheria and took malaria tablets. We got the Tourist cards from the Dominican Embassy in London, you can find address on the web, you send £8 for each one with a photocopy of your pasport

Hi,

Thanks for the responses. I was intending to book the holiday tonight as the Thomson sale ends at 11. But I thought I would just give them a phone call to clarify that the holiday is for 2 adults and 2 children aged 14 and 11. I realised that the 14 year old would be counted as an adult and I would pay for 3 adults and 1 child. The problem that I wanted to check out was would they allow us to stay in the 1 hotel room as I really do not feel comfortable splitting the family up and they cannot guarantee that we would be given adjoining rooms. Anyway contacted Thomsons and they told me that I would not be able to share the same room. If I went ahead and booked it I could end up being fined and also having to pay for the additional cost of another room. Has anyone else come up against this problem at these hotels? I mention these two hotels because that is where I would like to go to, but generally looking at any of the hotels they seem to have this strict code that they can only accommodate 2 adults and 2 children 2 - 12 or else 3 adults only to a room.

Any advice would really be appreciated

Hi Pudsey,
Just a quick note about the tourist cards, they are £8 each but you can only use Postal Order (from post office) or a Bankers Draft to pay for them. Dominican Republic embassy does not accept cheques. I sent off for four, using Postal Orders and it cost me £34.85, as there is a fee for the Postal Orders.

Hi guys

stayed at bachata last september with 11yr old, we are due to go back in 4 weeks!!!!!!!
had a great time!

Just a note re Jabs. We had to have one of the hep jabs (sorry cant remember which one) typhoid and tetanus. They dont make you take maleria meds but they say it wont hurt. We actually didnt and were all fine!

There isnt a great deal for kids to do as kids club hasnt really got any activities and is not fantastically supervised. The whole place is really family friendly though and there is a kids disco in the evening.
Our daughter was well occupied with the pool and beach.

Any q's please ask!

also....forgot to mention.......

the tourist card thing.....we didnt bother getting ours in the uk. It only takes 5 mins at the airport and you only have to wait for everyone else on your bus to get theirs before you can leave for the resort!

i was very surprised how many people did not know they needed one though!!!!
