A new insurance cover for missed flights allowing passengers to re-book instantly or get a refund is launching with easyJet.

Missed Flight Cover offers an immediate option to re-book on the next flight with the same airline or get a full refund whether you have slept in, been delayed in traffic or spent too long shopping in duty free.

The scheme by No Exclusions, which is supported by Mondial Assurance, will roll out across all airlines as a standalone brand which can be bought in addition to existing travel insurance.

Passengers do not need any proof to claim but must turn up at the airport within four hours of their booked departures ready to fly and register their claim to qualify.

The biggest savings can be made on issuing a new ticket as same day departure tickets are much more expensive than a ticket bought ahead, claims No Exclusions.

It says according to their research, 71% of people sleep restlessly before a morning flight.

Jane White, sales and marketing director of No Exclusions, said: "There is inherent passenger fear of missing flights. We"re marketing this to everyone not just those with traditional insurance. It"s equally applicable to business travellers.

"The value of Missed Flight Cover is not just the value of the original ticket. Same day ticketing is very expensive - sometimes three and a half times higher.

"We"re talking to other airlines but it does fit perfectly with low cost airlines. We want to roll out as soon as possible but airlines have to get the IT set up to have Missed Flight Cover at the booking stage."

The system has been trialling with easyJet since May with some customers choosing to get a refund and buy a ticket from another airline - or even another airport.

Missed Flight Cover is currently available at £7.50 for a single flight or £9.50 return, alongside a flight booking on easyJet.com.
