You don't know the weather (wind) conditions at the time of the landings and in any case, landings shouldn't be perfectly smooth. These are known as 'greasers' where the wheels would take time to spin-up and gain traction. A slightly hard landing (6fpm normally) is the norm giving a positive touchdown so the wheels spin-up and brakes can be applied as soon as possible. If you add a crosswind component or contaminated runway surface (rain), the last thing you want is a soft landing. Different aircraft have different sensations on landing as well so it was probably a perfectly normal landing. There are many variables to consider, plus aircraft aren't the easiest things to fly!

A firm landing is a good landing. Most modern aircraft have automatic braking systems which are generally activated by weight on the main landing gear; no weight on the landing gear equals no braking. Sure, manual braking is always available but a couple of seconds delay on a short runway is not desirable. Also, as Dazbo says, on a wet or contaminated runway you need a firm landing to break through the water layer on the runway surface otherwise you can aquaplane serenely off the end.

a friend is flying on 22nd and was told in an email that the plane to punta cana was being repaired as it had a fault and a smaller plane was being used so would be no premium seating but they would receive a premium service , am hopeing when i fly on the 2nd august to punta cana it will be a proper premium seating , would have thought any fault could have been repaired in ten days

TOM182/3 are ex-FCA as per your previous replies, subject to any last minute changes, for example a technical problem.

Quick query.

Our flight tickets for holiday to Turkey have turned up, but we haven't got any luggage labels for the first time ever with TOM.

Is this now the norm?

Are your tickets in a booklet? If so, the luggage "labels" are flimsy tearout ones at the back end of the booklet.

Yes tickets turned up in a booklet as last year, but no sign of the flimsies as we had last year.

I'll take another look just in case.

Hi,

I need to select seating (with Infant) on the below route but just wanted to confirm the aircraft type.

Please can you confirm the A/C type for the below route:-

TOM654 DSA - DLM
TOM499 DLM - DSA

Im expecting it to be the 737-800, however on the screen print (AirCenter) the TOM advisor sent over to me to choose my seats from the A/C type states with 2 different layouts of seat plan, (stil 3-3)

Also, what does "NO REC" mean on the AirCentre app??

Outbound
A/C Type:- 73C

Inbound
A/C Type: 7T8

One final question, what seats would you go for in a 737-800 with an Infant?

re the above post - looks like the Aruba flight this am ex LGW is on a substitute aircraft G-OBYG -Is this a short haul version with 29" legroom? I'm interested because my holiday to Kenya is getting closer and I've paid for Premium to get extra legroom!

My sentiments exactly.

I'm flying MAN - SFB in 5 weeks in Premium Economy.

It seems to be a fairly regular occurence now that OBYG is used as a relief for FCA aircraft that have gone Tech!

The Punta Can flight from MAN this morning went Tech as well, but at least it evetually went, but with a 3 hour delay!
