We stayed in the Melia Cayo Guillermo. The rooms were very clean - we stayed in 2 as we went on the 3 day excursion to Havana. The food was good, plenty of choice so even if you didn't like one thing, there was plenty more to choose from. The location was very quiet - something which I was a little concerned about before we went as I'm 26. I needn't have worried, it was wonderful. The staff were fantastic, especailly the entertainment staff. They went out of their way to be nice and made us feel extremely welcome. There was a show every night at 10 - some shows were better than others. The dancers were excellent. We are going back in January 2005, that's how good it was.

My first impression of the hotel reception area was "god! Not two and a half weeks here please". The standard of hygiene left much to be desired, toilets smelled and the bed covers grubby also the seats in the bar/lounge area were thick with all sorts of sun creams and lotions.

It took repeated calls to reception to have the mini bar stocked and the bar was always running short of spirits.

The brochure said piano bar but if a piano sitting in a corridor next to the bar qualifies so be it.

As for the food, when it was available, it was sometimes only half cooked, blood running from chicken dishes for example. Although the pizza restaurant was good.

The location of the hotel could not be faulted, the beach was beautiful. In general the staff were pleasant but the entertainment was amateurish.
