We stayed in the brand new Ocean Hotel which had only been open for 10 days. The hotel was beautifully decorated and very contempory. We initially had booked a twin room but on arrival we were upgraded to a double room. The lifts all play disco music and have disco lights in them,so having a little dance in them is inevitable, however there were insufficiant numbers of lifts and we ended up using the stairs to prevent long queing times.
The bedroom was fantastic again there was colour changing lights in the bathroom and above the bed!! the room also contained a mini fridge, tea making facilities, iron and ironing board and hair drier. The towels were changed daily although on one day the room wasn't cleaned despite the please clean me hanger left on the door all day,on phoning reception clean towels were imediatly sent up,and the room was cleaned when we went for tea,a complimentary newspaper was provided daily.
The staff were all helpful and friendly. There was a large variety of options for breakfasts including cereal, full english and fruit, although at peak times 9am onwards again resulted in long queing times!!!
Entertainment was average but ideal for children,we did enjoy the Micheal Jackson tribute, stars of x factor and George Micheal tribute,in between acts was sometimes a 45 minute wait, far to long!!!Drinks in the bars seemed expensive as was the restaurants on site, and be aware many activities are extra and it soon mounts up!!! overall an enjoyable few days away.

A truly miserable experience.

Firstly, the accommodation wouldn't have looked out of place in a World War II PoW camp. We had booked the Silver Plus accommodation which consisted of two very small leather sofa's and a small TV. We had requested a cot for our baby but was horrified to discover it was covered in grime and dirt. The bathroom was shocking with mildew and mould everywhere. The whole place was just a dump. Do Butlin's not know this is the 21st Century and squalor and deprivation went out with the slum clearances of the 1950's. Obviously not!

Secondly, the whole place just seems so naff. Sure the kids enjoyed some of the entertainment such as Bob the Builder and the swimming but the rest is just rubbish. This Butlins really needs a refurb. The fairground is the same one I remember going to when I was a kid.

Lastly, the food and clientelle. As we were self catering we were spared most of the filth served up to the prisoners, oops sorry I mean holidaymakers! We did venture for breakfast once and wasn't surprized to see substandard, greasy and fattening food on offer, and being consumed in vast quantities by the multitudes of overweight guests (who seem to be the majority at this resort) and tattooed ladies. If they were to drop a bomb on Butlins it would half this countrys welfare budget.

Truly the worst holiday I have ever been on.

Average but acceptable. Did not spend much time in our room. Spent most of the time taking advantage of the entertainment. Most of which was free.

Stayed on half-board basis in a 2 x Silver 2 bed apartments. The apartment was very clean but also very shabby. The bathroom's in particular were in need of an upgrade. The beds were very comfortable and the linen and quilt covers were crisp and clean. Tea and Coffee making facilities were available as was an ironing board and iron (no hairdryer). With Silver apartment there is no sitting area and only tv is in the main bedroom. So it was a case of all sitting on the double bed to have a cup of tea and watch the tv. The food, including the breakfast was fine and there was plenty of choice. It was a bit of a scrum to queue for dinner as not many people believed in the queueing system. All the staff worked very hard to ensure that everywhere was clean and tidy and that the food we replenished when necessary. The famous Redcoats definitely earn their money and could keep the children entertained pretty much all day. The swimming pool was excellent, if a little cold but not too much waiting to get on the shutes and Master Blaster. Lots of lifeguards on duty at all times. Beware of the arcades. The children spend a fortune on the machines and the money goes very quickly, we found the best thing was to give an amount for the day and when it was gone it was gone!!

Fantastic!!
Second time to a Butlins resort (first time was at Minehead, equally as good). Room spotless, newly decorated silver apartment, clean bedding, comfy beds, modern kitchen. Entertainment good although could do a with a Reps Cabaret and less tribute bands. Skyline is great, pool is fine (changing rooms a bit weird). The problem is people go looking for faults. I dont. i have a five year old who loved everything and if shes happy, im happy. So if you have kids, go for it - Its a great holiday break!

A rather belated review - however I have only just recovered from just how appalling our break was. We chose a Mon-Fri break in standard accommodation on half board. Used to go to Butlins as a child and had fond memories. We wanted a "cheap" few days away. Our room was actually two rooms with a dividing door which was locked. Housekeeping seemed to find it strange that we wanted the door unlocked - we were not going to be leaving a 9 year old unattended in a separate locked room! The room was vile - dirty, old and just horrible and depressing. The bedding was filthy. The food was probably the worst I have ever experienced on any holiday. I don't know why they found it so difficult to cook simple food well. The menu choice was limited, the food was tasteless and bland and rarely hot. By Day 3 we were eating elsewhere - obviously costing us money. The food outlets within the complex were well overpriced. The indoor waterworld was OK but freezing cold - you just didn't want to spend too much time in there. I always remember most of the activities in Butlins being free - not anymore. I totally resented paying to play crazy golf on a course which was probably about 50 years old and never renovated and maintained. The cost of playing snooker/pool was extortionate. The only free activity was the funfair which really has seen better days. The entertainment was mainly geared towards children and was acceptable. All in all we hated our stay at Butlins - it was pretty miserable and ended up costing a fortune. We will never return! Sorry to be so negative but we were just soooooo disappointed.

We stayed in a gold apartment which was nicely decorated and furnished but did have a problem with ants everywhere.
Food hall was ok and staff were helpful. The food itself was like old school style and not much choice, but you could help yourself to how much you liked.
Entertainment was very poor if you have teenagers as everything is geared towards little kids. There are to many paying things here as well and whats is supposed to be free is diabolical
We will not be visting butlins again as we were very dissapointed with it.
