The Hotel Catullo is rated at 2 stars but it's easily worth 3+. The were only two downsides. There is no aircon or fan and the temperature in June was really hot, especially at night. The other thing was that, although the breakfast was adequate, it would have beem nicer if there had been fresh fruit instead of tinned and fresh fruit juice instead of a diluted fruit drink.
Having said that, there are many upsides. We booked a front room with a lovely view over the castle at Malcesine and Lake Garda. There is ample car parking and the pool is great. They also have a gym which we didn't use. The proprietors are very helpful and laid-back.
The Catullo is only a few minutes walk from the lively centre of Malcesine and it's also next to the cable car station to go up to Monte Baldo.
