Small apartments but very clean. Nice staff, good location with plenty of restaurants to choose from all within a very short walk. Short transfer from airport.

A specially booked break for my husband & I to enjoy a rest, after an extremely emotional & difficult past 2 years. 'All Inclusive' near the beach. Just what we needed. 28/09/18-Arrival @ reception: Did we want an upgrade? Yes please! That will cost an additional €5 per night for Wifi & Air Con = €45. (Air con works for 2 hours at a time & is only in the bedroom.) Additional deposits of €10 x 2 for TV remote & Safety Deposit box. Enter accommodation! It's tired, dated, pretty shabby & in Area 8 (See photos). After a 15 minute walk to breakfast the following morning we thought we'd visit reception to request accomodation nearer to the restaurant. After all we're 'All Inclusive' and don't particularly fancy walking to the restaurant 3 times a day but also back to Area8 afterwards = 6 times a day. Saturday mornings Reception visit/response - if we wanted to change rooms it would be 'an upgrade' & will cost an additional €20 per night! We reminded reception of our previous nights 'upgrade' & suggested a 'downgrade' to where we would have originally been staying. Sorry, was the response, that's not possible & if you move accomodation you will also be charged for the cleaning of the room because you stayed in it last night! We later visited reception a further 3 times on the Saturday as we pursued our reasonable request with number of accomodation we could see were empty. No luck, so we give up. Sunday - a telephone call from reception. They have accomodation in Area2. At last we think! Ahhhh but an additional €20 per night still stands! On point of principle we refused. Monday night - temperatures have been high, weather is amazing but no clean towels or sheets in our room. Bedding - pillows are rock hard & uncomfortable. Food - lukewarm, didn't look appetising & very limited choice. Over our 9 night stay we gradually became 'self catering'. My sincere apologies to the room cleaning staff for leaving our dishes in the sink. I absolutely refused to wash dishes when we paid so much for an 'All Inclusive' holiday. The main restaurant bar area is not a welcoming venue for 'All Inclusive'. This should be looked at by management. People who book, pay for & expect 'All Inclusive' should be housed in Areas 1,2,3 & 4. Cleaning - Friday 5th October - the first time our outside patio area was swept & cleaned. I find this a difficult review to write & that's because of the lovely staff who all work at The Las Gaviotas. This review is not intended to disrespect the hard work & efforts you all put into maintaining these properties but is intended to highlight the failings of the owners & management of The Hotel Collection. The complex is spread over an extremely large area & not equipped for 'All Inclusive'. On the subject of staff members at The Las Gaviotas we found, Emmanuel, the bar organiser in Area8 to be the saving grace of our stay. Emmanuel is one of the most polite, hardworking & helpful young men we have had the pleasure to meet. Sadly, if it were not for his cheery personality & attendance to customer service I believe our holiday would have been disastrous. Thank you Emmanuel. We love Lanzarote but sadly we won't be recommending or returning to The Las Gaviotas.Show less Stayed: October 2018, travelled as a couple Sleep Quality Cleanliness Service

Matagorda is a beautiful part of the island there is a fantastic promenade which allows you to walk right through to Puerto Del Carmen. There are good variety of restuarants and the standard of food is good and reasonable. You can easily make your way to both the new part of Puerto del Carmen (a lot busier) and the quieter harbour area in the old town.

The hotel was very well situated with a few bars and restaurants nearby in either direction of the hotel. Food was of a reasonable quality and good value for money. For younger guests interested in nightclubs etc the larger resort of Puerta Del Carmen was easily accessible by taxi (walking took around 30mins)and taxis were cheap and plentiful. The beach was superbly situated for the hotel and was clean with sunbeds for hire at a reasonable cost for the day.

Matagorda is a small square with restaurants and pubs. It was very enjoyable and the food was of a good standard. Very popular with the holiday makers with a nice atmosphere. After 2 weeks it became a bit monotonous.

Matagorda is a quiet resort catering very much for families. However Puerto Del Carmen and Arrecife are only a short distance away by taxi where you can enjoy discos etc. Arrecife has great shops and there are always good sales on in the summer. I would recommend matagorda for a family stay as it is clean, safe and has lots of very good restaurants to cater for all tastes.

Matagoda is a nice area if a little quiet. The pubs and restaurants are of a good standard and in the main, reasonably priced.

Matagorda is a very quiet resort, with a small little shopping plaza that has a Spar, Irish bars, restaurants and souvenir shops. The resort itself is very clean, there is no litter at all, and the cycle path along the promenade is an excellent idea.

Entertainment in the resort is just an irish bar showing sports and soaps (which is good if you are a coronation street or eastenders fan!). There are no real nightclubs or bars though.

A visit into Puerto Del Carmen at night and you soon see why (theres tonnes of them!).

The beach at Matagorda is very long and stretches from the Airport all the way to Puerto Del Carmen, so crowds are not an issue.

Cleanliness is excellent too, there is hardly any litter on the beach, although the area near the runway isnt as clean. Sunbeds could be hired, but they are expensive, so I didnt use them. Overall the beach is excellent and gives you the opportunity to find somewhere quiet if you want to.

On the whole I would visit Matagorda and the hotel Sol Lanzarote again and I had a very good holiday.

Matagorda is lovely. We would definitely go again. It is quiet but close to the airport so convenient tho you do get planes flying over but not too many. Hardly noticed. It is close to the beach and the "road" outside is just for cycles and lifeguards/police etc so not dangerous traffic if you have children. there is a lovely prom that is lit in an evening and felt very safe and provides a nice walk into Puerto Del Carmen. Matagorda has its own "square" providing a selection of shops, bars and restuarants and a laundrette and amusement arcade. the bars there usually have entertainment on and are open late. Take a taxi form the airport to this resort as only about 5 mins and v.cheap.

Promenade between Matagorda and PDC makes it easy to walk from place to place however its a fair walk, not to be done in the heat of the day.

Matagorda very quiet at this time lots of the bars closed along the way. Small commercial centre close by, most of the bars closed This is where you find the Spar.

We found a great wee bar called Dreamers(its in Playa Pocilles between Matagorda and PDC)Met a good mix of folk, All the staff were great and made you feel very welcome, stopped there for lunch a few days,on the long walk back from PDC.Met some really nice people there too.

Take a walk to the harbour area in PDC,( or get a taxi) loveley just to sit back and relax.Lots of smashing resturants, sometimes hard to choose where to go

Our Hotel was close to the airport, we found it facinating, you could walk along to where the planes come in, so so close. Aircraft noise no problem though

All in all, even though Matagorda was quiet, your still close enough if you want to go into the livlier PDC, something for every one. This is our 3rd winter break, and im sure we will go back
