Small apartments but very clean. Nice staff, good location with plenty of restaurants to choose from all within a very short walk. Short transfer from airport.

A specially booked break for my husband & I to enjoy a rest, after an extremely emotional & difficult past 2 years. 'All Inclusive' near the beach. Just what we needed. 28/09/18-Arrival @ reception: Did we want an upgrade? Yes please! That will cost an additional €5 per night for Wifi & Air Con = €45. (Air con works for 2 hours at a time & is only in the bedroom.) Additional deposits of €10 x 2 for TV remote & Safety Deposit box. Enter accommodation! It's tired, dated, pretty shabby & in Area 8 (See photos). After a 15 minute walk to breakfast the following morning we thought we'd visit reception to request accomodation nearer to the restaurant. After all we're 'All Inclusive' and don't particularly fancy walking to the restaurant 3 times a day but also back to Area8 afterwards = 6 times a day. Saturday mornings Reception visit/response - if we wanted to change rooms it would be 'an upgrade' & will cost an additional €20 per night! We reminded reception of our previous nights 'upgrade' & suggested a 'downgrade' to where we would have originally been staying. Sorry, was the response, that's not possible & if you move accomodation you will also be charged for the cleaning of the room because you stayed in it last night! We later visited reception a further 3 times on the Saturday as we pursued our reasonable request with number of accomodation we could see were empty. No luck, so we give up. Sunday - a telephone call from reception. They have accomodation in Area2. At last we think! Ahhhh but an additional €20 per night still stands! On point of principle we refused. Monday night - temperatures have been high, weather is amazing but no clean towels or sheets in our room. Bedding - pillows are rock hard & uncomfortable. Food - lukewarm, didn't look appetising & very limited choice. Over our 9 night stay we gradually became 'self catering'. My sincere apologies to the room cleaning staff for leaving our dishes in the sink. I absolutely refused to wash dishes when we paid so much for an 'All Inclusive' holiday. The main restaurant bar area is not a welcoming venue for 'All Inclusive'. This should be looked at by management. People who book, pay for & expect 'All Inclusive' should be housed in Areas 1,2,3 & 4. Cleaning - Friday 5th October - the first time our outside patio area was swept & cleaned. I find this a difficult review to write & that's because of the lovely staff who all work at The Las Gaviotas. This review is not intended to disrespect the hard work & efforts you all put into maintaining these properties but is intended to highlight the failings of the owners & management of The Hotel Collection. The complex is spread over an extremely large area & not equipped for 'All Inclusive'. On the subject of staff members at The Las Gaviotas we found, Emmanuel, the bar organiser in Area8 to be the saving grace of our stay. Emmanuel is one of the most polite, hardworking & helpful young men we have had the pleasure to meet. Sadly, if it were not for his cheery personality & attendance to customer service I believe our holiday would have been disastrous. Thank you Emmanuel. We love Lanzarote but sadly we won't be recommending or returning to The Las Gaviotas.Show less Stayed: October 2018, travelled as a couple Sleep Quality Cleanliness Service

The resort is very quiet but the restaurants and bars that are there are good. Beach was nice and quiet.

Basically its a very quiet resort but if you want more it's only a short, cheap taxi ride to Puerto Del Carmen.

Suited me and my Mum fine, we just read books all day, went for a nice meal in the evenning and to bed early - very very relaxing.

The whole resort was very clean ( apart from the sand blowing about when it was REALLY windy !)

Lots of bars/places to eat etc in the resort of Matagorda, a few of the bars also have entertainment at nights, from singers to karaoke (for those brave or drunk enough !)

The beach is lovely, lots of sunbeds and not usually that busy, it was 8euros to hire two sunbeds and umbrella for the day, you get a ticket and can come & go as you please throughout the day.

Would definetly visit again, love the place & the locals are very friendly.

Resort is quite close to the airport therefore ideal for people with travelling difficulties. Some aircraft noise but stops on a night. One main commercial centre with numerous bars and restaurants including a new Japanese restuarant which I would definitely recommend, the food was excellent. La Brisa and The Matagorda Park restaurants are also very good places to eat. Pop into The Sportman (Sean's Bar) for a drink and a freindly atmosphere. Overall I would pick Matagorda if you like a very quite, relaxing holiday.

Matagorda was very clean and quiet great for a relaxing break. Aircraft noise was not a problem just fun watching them come into land. The evening entertainment was quiet over easter which was a shame as there are plenty of different bars to choose from but with not many people in them. The promande was lovley to walk along in the evenings.

The resort of Matagorda is fairly quiet and suited more to families and older people. There is a selection of bars and restaurants in the commercial areas all with fairly similar menus.

There were plenty of bins about and the paths were pretty clean. We did however notice quite a few cigarette butts on the beach.

The beach itself could be quite rocky in places but there were plenty of sandy stretches too.

It is fairly close to the airport but watching the different planes at such close range was quite entertaining. The flights were mainly during the day with only a handful after dark so it's not like the noise disturbed your sleep.

Matagorda is a quite resort near the airport, we were only there a week but by this time, we were quite bored with it, not much going of, maybe it was the time of year and the weather being coldish, and probably in summer with the lighter warmer nights it could be a bit more interesting.

Not to worry though Puerto del Carmen is only 4 km away and Costa Teguise about 10km.

Aircraft noise is common during the day and quite an interesting diversion the airport runway is only a 10 min walk on front and its quite thrilling to watch as the planes fly over your head and land couple of hundred yards away from you.

There a plenty of places to eat around the area if not in the matagorda commercial centre, walk 400 yards towards puerto del carmen on the front and there is another commercial centre.

Yes I would go back and maybe it was a lack of the sun while we were there, that has made me sound a bit negative about the area, personally though I would hire a car all of the week, instead of the last 3 days as we did.

Excellent resort for a one week winter stay - Beach fantastic - water was warmer than the San Marcial pool. Good Spar shop for stocking up on snacks and booze for the apt.
Great restaurants and bars - nice little arcade for the kids while we were enjoying a post-meal drink.

Definitely recommend for families with younger children ie -pre-teens

The hotel is in Matagorda, about 45 minutes walk from Puerto del Carmen. Nice beach, plenty of sunbeds/umbrellas available for hire. A couple of hundred yards away from the hotel is a small shopping centre with a good selection of restaurants (Chinese, Indian, Japanese, Greek) as well as the usual burger joints. If you want anything remotely Spanish, please forget this whole area of Lanzarote. It consists of British bars selling cheap local beer and what seemed like dozens of Irish bars - 'Molly Malones' 'The Auld Triangle' etc.. etc.. etc.. Dont get me wrong, if you want to sit in a Brtish bar swilling ale all day with middle aged men in football shirts (and believe me thats what most of its like) you'll be in heaven - as for us...we'd have to be desperate for a holiday to consider returning to Lanzarote.

The centre of Matagorda is only a few minutes walk from the hotel, but is really small and is mainly singers in bars, not my scene! We got taxis into P.D.Carmen, which has slightly livelier bars with music on, but at this time of year wasn't really that busy, which surprised me.

I'd never been on holiday abroad for Christmas before and to be honest Christmas day was just another day and we sunbathed!

All in all it was a great holiday and we didn’t want to come home. We would definitely go away for Christmas again but perhaps to a livelier destination.
