Discussions regarding holidays in the Algarve
As far as I know there are no flights from Faro to Alicante but Ryanair fly from Seville to Alicante and in September the fares are from around £14 each way. Driving to Alicante would take all day and you would have to ascertain that you could take your hire car out of Portugal. If you were allowed to you would certainly not be covered by breakdown insurance for most of your journey which could make any breakdown very expensive.
Post above is correct - there are no flights from Faro into Spain except Air Berlin to Mallorca and Ryanair four times a week to Madrid.

Driving to Alicante would take 8 - 10 hours.

Driving to Seville and flying from there is certainly an option. By train, Seville - Alicante is currently 6 - 7 hours, via Madrid, so no quicker overall than driving.
Thank you so much for your replies, it seems to me a lot of hassle, I'll just wait till she comes over in the Spring. Once again thank you
