getting rupees

Don't get them until you arrive in Goa.
Then either wait until you get to the resort or buy £10 in airport.
The exchange rate in airport will be 10-20% less than in the resorts.

It's hard to believe - but Goa has ATM machines + armed guards. :tup

Use your Nationwide Flex Account cash card and you will get rupees with no commission and no charge for using the card. :tup

There was a reply I read somewhere that it was possible to get rupess in small amounts from LLoyds bank in the UK. I know that this goes against what I thought were the rules about restricted currencies. Can anybody confirm this story to be true?

Yes its true LLoyds do sell rupees, but the rate is not very good. :cheers

I have also heard that you can buy small amounts from bureau de change at airports; again the rate of exchange isn't very good.

Going places had them last year, bit less than the resort rates but not bad for £20 worth to tide you over.
