We did our first visit to Egypt in 1993 on a Nile cruise - we flew to Luxor where we saw the 'West Bank' the tombs etc - Karnak and Luxor Temples - Edfu - etc and sailed down to Aswan and also flew to Abu Simbal on a day trip - the Nile cruise is an excellent way to sight see in Egypt - for any age group - it is very informal - not at all like like a 'cruise' as we think of it - (or it wasn't then) You don't see the Pyramids on this tour but I think that some tours do manage to incorporate both. Since then We've been back to Egypt many times and also done many cruises to the Med and Red Sea etc. If you want to see some of the sites in Egypt this is a good way to do it.
