You have chosen well if you like it quiet with friendly locals and good food:)

We have been holidaying on Samos, and stayed in Kambos [Votsalakia] for the last 5 years, and are heading out again this August.

Take a look at this site, http://www.holidaysuncovered.co.uk/
[click on 'enter reviews', then at the top of the page, click the drop down box and choose Samos, once that comes up, page down until you find the reports covering Kambos]

lots of people have added their reviews here, with alot of info about the resort and restaurants, also places to visit. Saves me having to type it all out again for you, as the reports are very true.

Where are you staying, this would help with recommending restaurants to you. Definately hire a car and get out to see the island, and for this I can recommend visiting our 'friend' Stefanos at Hermes Car Rental....he will give you an excellent deal:)

If you have any more questions after reading the reviews I'll try to help.

Hire a car and see rest of island it`s well worth it, also try out some of the little bays and coves for beaches and swimming, We`ve been to Pythagorion for the last two year it was great, her indoors has talked me into going to Corfu this year am going to miss Samos still will be back there next year 8)

We stayed in Kokari I think it was called. Very sleepy little fishing village, well it was October but we loved it. We thought the Island was great and lovely and green with the forests (well it was before they had the big fires). Pythagoria is worth a visit and has some excavation sites too. Samos was nice to walk around. It was Ochi day when we were there so that was an interesting experience. We were only there for a week so didnt see very much so would need to go back - good excuse!

It's worth taking a trip over to Patmos but be warned that the crossing can be very rough. Also the Eupalinus Tunnel just outside Pythagorio is well worth a visit. It is an amazing feat of engineering for the time it was constructed

Hi Greeklass

Went to Samos last year and stayed in Kokkari. I have to say that up to now, Samos is by far the best island we have been to. We visited Kambos twice in the fortnight and it was great. I also would recommend a car, but a 4X4 as you see so much more of the island as the untarmacced roads take you right into the island and also on coast roads not available to others and you hardly see a sole.

I am going to put up a small gallery of our photos from last year up on the web over the next few days (still working on it Borismab :D ) so will let you know.

Hi all,
Thinking of going to Samos on a late deal....departing between 10th and 15th May, so very soon!! What tour operators will do us a package? Not bothered if it's Thomson, First Choice etc.. Also whats the weather like mid to late May?
Reply
Along with Thomson, Kosmar and Manos travel to Samos. There are also more specialist companies like Cachet, Laskarina, Simply Travel and Sunvil, but these will cost you more.

for current weather forecast check this site..http://www.weatheronline.co.uk/Greece/Samos.htm and you can also click on 'history' and find out what it was like last year. Never been mid May, so I cant help, but I would guess it would be reasonably warm, but a bit chilly in the evenings.

Samos is our favourite Greek Island. Kokkari is the place to stay if you like relaxing days and a good base for visiting the mountain villages and walks and for relaxing evening meals and people watching round the harbour. The old capital Karlovassi, is worth a visit, it's spread over five villages that sprawl together. Near there are the waterfalls at Potami which is a lovely walk but a bit off the beated track. The villages of Manolates and Vourolates are worth a visit as is the tunnel at Pythogoria, although not for those with a fear of enclosed spaces! I would not bother with the "fossilised forest", everyone who went came back disappointed. You will have a great time.

Guys...thanks for the info, but panic over! We have decided to go to Rhodes instead. May leave Samos for a planned holiday!
Thanks again...

Stayed in Lardos (well on the road to Pefkos) last September at Cosmos Maris. Am working on and will be uploading a Rhodes page to add to the Samos page very soon.

Have stayed at the Coralli apts which is between Pefkos and Lardos, if your looking for somewhere to eat at night the restaurant was very good

Do try the Coliseum Restaurant in Pefkas. It is one of the best. The owner Paul always makes you feel welcome and the food is delicious. Tell Paul that "Manga's mum and dad send their regards!!

I've stayed in Lardos too, back in 1999..Sunshine Hotel, found it very relaxing.

The Coralli has a nice pool aswell as the good food. Used to go there for a change from the Crysanthi where we were staying.

I'm sure we have been to the Coliseum before :?: Unless it's under 4 years old as that's the last time we were in Rhodes. Pefkos does have a good selection of tavernas. We also like eating in Lindos in the evening, using one of those roof top tavernas :D
15 days and counting :fly
