Hi all. I am thinking of Stalis in Crete as my next place to check out in Greece. What is it like, is it similar to Tsilivi in Zante, also is it too commercialised with loads of bars showing only fools and horses (hope not!!!!).

Ta in advance

We havent been to Stalis recently( can't remember which year we went but Concorde crashed when we there). I think Comparing Stalis to Tsilivi would be fairly accurate. We loved both as there was plenty of restaurants/bars but not really a great resort for singles. It has been 6 years since I last went to Tsilivi( had been there about 5 times) and I gather that it has probably not gone the way I want it to go- by that I mean that it seems to be more "English" than it was. Stalis had loads of typical tavernas and less of the "full English breakfast"
Stalis is also in between Hersonnisos and Malia and both are easy to get in to if you prefer a livelier night( or just a change of scenery!) I would def return to Stalis( I don't think I will be going back to Tsilivi- couldn't face being disappointed!)
Hopefully someone can give you a more up to date insight!

not as bad as some , there are some english bars but a good mixture of all sorts really and they all spread out along the road so you wont be disappointed ok . its quieter than malia but busier than tslivi .
you will have made a good decision to go to stalis the beach is great and never too overcrowded .

enjoy

I only passed through Tsilivi, but stayed in Argassi on zante and only 6 months before had stayed in Stalis in Crete and I have to say that Stalis was lovely...(although we liked both!) Stalis is easily placed between the busier and livelier resorts of Malia and Hersonissos, yet still offers traditional Greek places to eat etc. I loved Stalis and intend to return there, the beach is lovely, and plenty of places to eat, drink and close to other places. Altho its not overly busy, its not quiet, so a good mix for people of all ages.

I personally preferred Stalis to Argassi, despite spending 5 days of our holiday travelling backwards and forwards to a hospital in hersonissos after my partner had an accident....

Am sure you will have a great time....a part of me wishes I was going there now instead of the Dom Rep where we head in just over a week....

<<sigh>> lol

We stayed in Stalis 3 years ago and never saw a TV in 2 weeks. A nice place to relax and fatten up for the winter.

Thinking of booking a holiday through Thomson at Sokrates II Apartments in Stalis which is in Malia I believe. Never been to Greece before always go to Italy.

Anybody out there stayed at these particular apartments. Also what is the area like.

There are two adults in their 40s and one sixteen year old with his sixteen year old girlfriend.

Want a bit of peace but some excitement for the teenagers, as long as its not too close to the 40 year olds

Thanks

Stalis is perfect for what you describe.

It itself is a quiet, family resort just 5-15 minutes walk from Malia.

When they want their fun, they can head to the beach or bars in Malia and you can enjoy the relaxed atmosphere in the many bars/restaurants in Stalis.

Stalis is lovely, I would highly recommend it!

Apart from Tunisia, it has the best beach I have seen in the Med!

Agree Stalis is lovely - plenty of life but not rowdy. Star beach and the open air museum are both excellent

Stalis is very close to Malia - by car or bus it would be about 10 mins away!

Personally, I think is a lot nicer than Malia as well...just a bit more classy! The beaches are very good as well!

Stalis is often considered to be part of Malia, it is very close. They run into each other.

Hi

Stalis is close to Malia and very easy to get to it from there. There is a bus service which goes there (and a little "noddy train" lol) but it is possible to walk it as the road from Stalis takes you there...

We stayed at Stalis and loved it, the beaches are lovely and were glad that we were there and able to get to other places but didn't have the in your face kind of situation that malia can be.

Am sure you will love it....we've just come back from the Dom Rep and Stalis beat that hands down...am jealous lol

If you like bars, restaurants & tacky shops then stalis is ideal.

The food is great & people very friendly, however if I were to visit crete again it would not be Stalis.

Accomodation is very basic, no luxury but if a bed is all you need then ok.

Enjoy your holiday, as I said the people are great & the scenery is truly breathtaking if you go up in to the mountains. :D

Stayed in Stalis - wandered into into Malia several times without realising - very close to each other. Could tell the difference when walking via the beach but not by road. Wally trolley very useful. :)
