Sorry I was slow picking this one up

March is a bit limited for Europe as it's hard to get to places I would usually recommend (eg Cyprus) at that time of year - many of the charter flights operate summer season only.

Have you considered the Canary Islands? Weather will be far better than most of Europe in March (water temp probably around 18 degrees though so will need 5/6mm wetsuit or semi-dry to be comfy) - we have dived from Tenerife (some good dive centres in Costa Adeje and Los Gigantes especially) and Lanzarote (we were in Costa Teguise, but bussed down for most of our diving to Playa Blanca on the south tip which has a wonderful harbour with wrecks to explore at a great depth for "beginners").

Otherwise, if you are prepared to go further afield you will have a fab time in Egypt...................................

Thanks a million for that advice - will look into Canaries for definite - a few people had been saying it was good. Egypt would be great too, might be good to get a bit more experience first maybe.

My children have dived OK in Egypt - the big wrecks are not accessible due to depth restrictions - but the shore diving at Marsa Alam is excellent, and the volume of dive sites to choose from Sharm, Hurghada and El Gouna means that there is something for everyone whatever the ability/confidence level although the nature of the sites means two single tank dives with lunch in between and you are pretty much on the boat from 8 - 3 for diving!

If it is any help, can recommend from personal experience Calypso Diving in Costa Teguise, Lanzarote, and Manta Sub in Costa Adeje Tenerife - but there are plenty of other dive schools in the Canaries that would be fine I'm sure

The day boat diving in Egypt is very easy in fact it's easier than the Canaries especially out of Hurghada. On most sites there is very little current and they don't very often dive on the walls so you have a bottom at 15/25 m. The vis is normally better than 30 m and the dives are in most cases off the back of a moored boat so entry and exit are OK. If you progress they will offer you chances to do some very easy drift dives but they are not compulsory if you don't fancy them. You can get more challenging dives there but they are not offered that much unless you get to know the guides and they trust you. All dives with less experienced divers are normally guided.
