the question is why would you ?

You can buy rice / pasta / marmite / tinned tomatoes etc etc while you are there... and don't have to lug them about taking up space and weight in your suitcase !

Plenty of supermarkets sell things at decent prices (as long as you buy the Cypriot/local brand rather than you must have heinz beans etc)

a sample of some shopping we did in 2010 shopping

As for buying sauces... When you are in the land of the freshest and most taste filled fruit and veg, you would be missing a real treat in not making them from scratch. You can nip into the little shop/s around the area and pick up a few onions, peppers, tomatoes, olive oil, herbs etc and make a great soup/sauce. This also means you can keep making things as well if you have oil left, maybe a tomato and a pepper, add some eggs and make a great omelette etc.

I fancied "tomato soup" while we were self catering and did just what I've said above. You could have easily mixed it in with some pasta and sprinkled over some fresh (feta) cheese to make a wonderful pasta dish.

I've just added the soup as an example - tomato soup - self catering in the Livas Hotel, Pernera, Cyprus

Top tips...thanks. TBH I intend doing as little cooking and shopping as I can, I do enough of that at home. However food shopping 'in the sun' is always more exciting. Always gone AI the last few years when the kids were younger, so I have visions of going through huge amounts of money just on food!!
Thanks again
Pam
