On seeing the above report, I checked my booking for next summer on BA's website and, sure enough, discovered that it had been cancelled.

In view of the alternatives offered, which included alternative flights with Malev, via Budapest of up to 18 hours duration with stopovers, I cancelled the booking and requested a full refund, which was agreed.

Alternative flights have been booked with Wizz Air from Luton to Varna, at a slightly higher cost due to booking fees & checked-in baggage fees.
