but yesterday, as my hubby (who usually works away from home) is off work (needed blood tests) we decided to have a run out to Whitby which is only about 30 miles away. It was grey skies, cold and damp but off we set. We drive over the North Yorkshire moors which in the summer is a lovely run out, as it was it was misty so you couldn't see a thing
The trees were bare, the grass was straw coloured and all there was only a few sheep in the fields. Still, we were out and about so I didn't mind.On arriving at Whitby we decided to try the famous Magpie Fish restaurant as there wasn't a queue! In the summer people queue up the street for an hour to sample the fish & chips here. We've never been in before as I wouldn't queue for that long no matter how good the reputation. So as no queue....in we go and were shown to our table (bit close to your neighbours) where we ordered coffee, tea, cod, chips and mushy peas and a haddock and chips. The meal was fine. Nothing exceptional but, maybe as we live so close to the coast our local chippy isn't so bad.
There were a few people from the South/Midlands who thought their meal was lovely. We then took a walk over the swing bridge into the old part of town with the cobbled streets and tiny doorways, - & no we didn't walk up the 199 steps to the Abbey, have been up there a few times and yesterday was too cold....
On the way back we popped into Goathland (where they filmed Heartbeat) for a quick coffee and then home to put the fire on!!
So if you've done anything interesting lately please share it with us all
years ago we had a fantastic meal on a beach in a place called Whitstable and I had a fancy to try and find it again.
but obviously didn't say anything. Twas my fault really as I should have suggested somewhere, but, to be honest, the weather was that grey and dismal I don't think anywhere would have had that 'day out' spark.
Plus of course donoughts from Jani - you were really spoilt today
Was it a virus?
