Sure is hun
I think we can safely say that there is a notch out of the mountain and it is not an optical illusion.
HERE
Just stroll down the pictures
Here are some of mine off the video as viewed from the "cross" with the "heat haze" around the base....not good quality pictures.

And off the camera..again from the "cross".

i believe that 'peacock island' is now called 'benidorm island' i went down to the harbour march-april this year for a walk and it says its now changed its name to benidorm island for some reason ha ha
and ive always thought that 'peacock//benidorm island' was that chunk of rock missing from the mountains but ive heard so many stories i think i should make my own up

Actually, I believe the rock does have a chunk out of it, but which 'story' I believe, well I really don't know. Obviously legends are legends and cannot be proven...an optical illusion?
Depending on where you are in relation to the mountains, and whether ot not there is a heat haze....yes, I guess it IS possible.....but probably very doubtful. Looking at the mountains from a distance as in the photos above, well it does appear to be just the one mountain with a chunk missing, but looking at my earlier link.....it looks like it could be two pieces of rock.
One thing is for sure, this is certainly a very interesting thread and I hope it goes on for a while.

No, I'm just saying....to be totally honest, unless I actually climb the mountain myself, (and that is not going to happen).....I will never be 100% sure whether it is a chunk missing or more than one piece of rock....I WAS pretty sure it was a chunk missing....but Sanji, that was prior to looking at your link to a series of pics from which I 'stole' a link......and then reading David's 'optical illusion theory'.....well it has got me thinking.

No, I'm just saying....to be totally honest, unless I actually climb the mountain myself,
Leave that to Julie Andrews, you stick with the Wizard of Oz Dorothy.

Another legend, which basically ties in with the Legend Of the Giant Roland at Puig Campana mountain, with its missing chunk. This Legend has it that a Giant ( ?Roland? ) tore a piece of rock out of the top of the mountain to make a ring for his lady wife. When he found out that she had been unfaithful to him, he threw the rock into the bay in a rage of fury and imense anger.
That piece of rock landed in the sea just off the Benidorm coastline and is now known locally as 'Peacock Island'. Or more recently, 'Benidorm Island'. Geologists have worked out that the size of the Island, and the size of the missing chunk in the Campana mountain region, and that the measurements of the actual 'notch' in the Mountain and the Island match up almost precisely. The make-up of the rock on the island is also the same as the rock on the mountain. Almost as if it was a piece of a giant 3D jigsaw puzzle, in which the island in the sea is the final piece of the puzzle and will fit into the notch exactley.
The legends live on..............
