I believe the supply on Island Escape is 110 volts. I have an adapter but will this voltage be sufficient to charge my phone and camera batteries?
I assume that it will but would like confirmation please.
Are there any tea making facilities in the cabin? We do like a cup of tea first thing in the morning! If not will a travel kettle work?
I have booked a cabin on coral deck but read in an old revue that these cabins are unrefurbished and not as good as the other decks. Is this true?

Sorry for all the questions but this will be our first cruise.

Ray.

Hi Ray and welcome to HT!

You should be able to get your phone charged at the Purser's desk as it won't charge at 110V.

If your travel kettle is dual voltage it should work OK with an adaptor.

Hello Ray

Do you get Sky Travel? If so, each evening at 7.30 they show a programme called "Cruise Ship" which is about the Island Escape!! Part one was last night but they seem to repeat it during the day sometimes, and then start all over again after episode 10. I was off work for 3 weeks and saw it about 3 times over!!

Thanks Luci and Juliet.

I have checked my phone and camera chargers and they are all dual voltage as is the kettle so they should all work OK. (should have checked before posting!)

I dont get Sky travel but I have heard about this prog. I think it was when the ship first started with Island Cruises and from what I hear it is much better now. At least I hope so.

Thanks again

Just booked today to go on the Island escape.
I was looking at Island escapes web pages to day to see what was on offer. I was not looking for a cruise as on saturday i am going to visit my sister who lives in mallorca. when a price caught my attention £299 for a weeks cruise leaving on the 5 of april from mallorca, without thinking I`m on the phone checking out the price. chap on other end says i will just check the upto date price. comes back on the phone and says, Cruise only outside cabin on bronze deck £269, would you like to book, before i know it out comes the credit card and i book for me and sister to go.
I then had to phone my sister to tell her we are going on a cruise.
She is a holiday rep and has not had a holiday her self for years, she was over the moon when I told her we were going. :D :D :D

Its great when the lastminute deals come up like this, IE was £299 for a number of weeks last year, so others looking for a cheap break in the next few weeks should keep an eye out. IE is well worth the £40 a night if it is as good as last year.

Finally booked to go on a cruise, 6 days to go! Can anyone tell me about what cash to take. Is it best to take Euros for the ports? Also hubby likes a flutter in the Casino, do you use stirling in the Casino. Thanks for any replies. Any other advice about the ship would be gratefully received. :D

Hi Janjon

Yes you will need euros for the ports if they are in the Med and the ports are in the EU. If the currency onboard is sterling, which I think the Island Escape is, then that is what they will take in the casino. Some ships allow you to charge what you spend in the casino to your onboard account, but most do not and insist on cash.

Thank you for that information Luci, appreciated :D

Last year you could put the casino on your account and pay with CC at end.

Hello all,

I am booked to sail on the island escape next week and am just getting around to planning what to do in each of the ports visited, can anyone give me any idea how easy it is to go it alone and what ther is to see or do in any of the following ports... ajaccio, toulon, nice, mahon

Also can anyone tell me how easy it is to get to Herculeneum (?sp) from Naples? I'm not very brave and would prefer ship excursions but they dont seem to be running a trip to Herculeneum that week?

Any other tips regarding island escape would be appreciated..

Thanks in advance for your help

Hi Louise and welcome to HT!

Mahon is a very pretty place. The ship docks right in the centre so it is very easy to get around. I'm afraid I don't know about the other ports.

Hi
Sounds like you are doing the same cruise as the one I did.

We didnt go to Corsica as we went to Tunis instead.

However in Civitevecchia, we took the shuttle bus run by Island Cruises to Rome. It literally picks you up and drops you in Rome and leaves you to your own devices - it cost £25 each! What a lot of people did was walk off the cruise ship to the train station and get the train to Rome - It cost £7 return. The full on Vatican, Rome tour etc cost about £50 with lunch so there is a tour to suit your pocket.

No point in doing an excursion in La Spezia as the boat moors off shore, takes you in by tender then you get to see a whole range of shops, bars, restaurants and beaches. Its a pretty town and we got back on ship mid afternoon, had a spot of lunch then spent time round by the pool as it was Nice and Quiet.

In Nice we falgged down a Taxi to take us to Monte Carlo and we stayed here all day. The taxi cost £30 return between 3 of us - or we could have done the Island Cruises bus for about £15 each. Or you could go into Nice itself but we fancied Monte Carlo more.

Its true the ship docks in Mahon. Disembark, walk up some steps and you are in the shopping area. I personally didnt like Mahon, I thought it was dirty, so maybe take a trip to one of the beaches or the West Coast.

BUT - You will have a Fantastic Time - Island have a new ship for next year and I am going on it for my Honeymoon - Thats how good I thought they were - You will enjoy and I will eat my hat if you dont like it!
