Where in the world can you find a country that has such a fabulous spiritual and geographic wealth. As an example, travel from the snow peaks of the Himalayan area, travel across to the deserts in the west, then eastwards to the wettest place on earth in Bihar and southwards along the Ganges then due south to God's own country Kerala.

If you are fortunate to be able to take a long term rent in Goa, it is a perfect base to set off and explore one of the greatest countries in the world. Can't wait to get out there for our annual Goan pilgrimage, we are planning Amritsar and Srinagar this coming season.

My husband was brought up in India and Malaysia (50 plus years ago) he can just still speak a little Hindi which is normally greeted with laughs from the locals!! But is handy on our trips as an ice breaker.

Mumbai, Delhi, Agra, Kovalam, Hampi, Gokarna, Ganpatipule and Ratnagiri. Dream trip in the future is to go to the Lakshadweep islands. Has anyone been there? It looks like quite an expensive holiday!!

Hi all.
First of all, never been in India before (except in airports in transit). Going to Goa 2 weeks October (from Oz - originally English but 26 years away).
So why do I respond?
Spent 8 weeks total in Sri lanka - business. Loved the place - managed to do a few days away including Sigirari (mid North), the palace on top of a what?...the American name would be a butte..a stark stumplike hill on a flat plain. In the south past Galle to ?? Weligama where the locals fish from poles planted offshore. also love the capital Colombo.
Also similar time in Bangladesh. Bit more down to earth. Although based in one of the more upmarket areas of Dhaka, seeing dead kids in the gutter (don't mean goats) and owners sleeping with their cows to keep warm gave a different view of the world. Otherwise a trip on the river was a highlight.
Plus several times in Bali on holiday - OK not India but a Hindu enclave in Indonesia. Once you get out of the main drag the country and people are magnificent.
Look forward to October!
