Just booked my flights for our long awaited return to Las Fuentes in August. I know I said I wouldnt go again in August as it is so busy, however our appt has underground designated parking and I intend to walk in the evening either to the Harbour or Alcossebre. A sign of the times I think is the fact that there are NO low cost flights anymore! Cost me over £700 for a family of 4 however having not been away last year, I really couldnt be bothered to search after looking for over 3 hours! 10 weeks to go and feel like I am on holiday countdown time already!
Hi Barnio
I am jealous. We went to Alcossebre last September for the first time. What a fabulous family resort. We hope to return soon, especially if and when Castellon Airport opens ........
Enjoy your holidays,
Jean

I'm going to Alcossebre (Las Fuentes) for the 1st time in August with my husband, 17 year old daughter and her friend!
Any tips/pointers? What should we expect?

It will be very busy thats for sure with an awfull lot of Spanish holidaying there. Alcossebre is regularly grid locked traffic wise in the morning. We tend to go back to Alcala de Xivert just up the road about 2 miles, it is much quieter to shop and we go to Consum in the main square.
Les Fontes beach will be heaving until mid afternoon when the Spanish go for siesta however there are plenty of other beaches/coves on the way up to Cap y Corp. Plenty of restaurants on the harbour, some more pricey than others, Cheers Bar is English run and serves decent food at reasonable prices. Some good restaurants in Alcossebre town, Taxa Chimo for Tapas..very cheap and excellent and El Patio Pizzeria for excellent pizza.
If you are driving, a good day out is had in Peniscola where the castle is where El Cid was filmed. About 90 minutes away is Port Aventura theme park at Salou which is also excellent.

Thanks for that Barnio, very helpful,
We did expect it to busy as the Spanish always take their holidays in August don't they but exams etc dictate!!
We get the impression that safety isn't an issue there and that the girls will be fine on their own. In your opinion is that a fair assumption?

Hi Jan, In all the years I have been going, I can honestly say the only time I have seen any trouble was from an annoying English drunk in cheers bar...he got thrown out and that was that. The Spanish people are lovely in my opinion and if you try and speak a little of the language it goes down very well. Please and thankyou's go a long way!!! We had a gap of not going for a couple of years however when we went back to the Beach Bar, we were treated like long lost friends, instantly recognised and hugs and handshakes all round. The same has to be said at El Patio Pizzeria, I went to book a table one day and the owner insisted on giving me a drink on the house and an assurance that we would always be guaranteed a table on the Patio!!!
Fantastic barnio, just what we were hoping for!
We have spent alot of time on the Costa de la Luz which is also very spanish so our daughter knows her way around a spanish menu and is comfortable trying out the language in restaurants, bars and shops so it sounds like the girls can have their independence and so can Mum & Dad - result!

Have a great holiday - which complex are you staying at if you dont mind me asking???
Los Hibiscus in Las Fuentes - Do you know it?
I have to say the directions seem a little vague but I think it may be near or in Ribamar whatever that is!!!

Hi Jan, the name rings a bell but cant say I know exactly where it is. Las Fuentes isnt big though, you should be able to find it easy enough. We are at Jardines Del Puerto...right on the front.
Sounds lovely Barnio. Enjoy your holiday and thanks for your help
You too Jan....I did google it earlier, there is a development called Hibiscus in Alcossebre itself.....Not Los Hibiscus.......that is quite a way out though behind the Tropicana camp site on the way to Cap Y Corp....cant see it being that one.......
Well!!! 1 hour of work left....just checked the long range weather forecast....sunshine, heat and no rain all the way!!! Perfect!! Wifey at home doing all the packing....all arrangements in place...a nice chilled out day tomorrow before we fly on Saturday!! Gonna miss the first 2 home matches of my football team but I know where I'd rather be
Quick update.....weather hot and sunny......everything perfect......packed beaches however the Spanish leave around 2.30pm and I become one of those Mad Dogs and Englishmen who go out in the midday sun!!!!!
Just a word of caution barnio. Watch your bags on the beach - my daughter and her friend had theirs taken last week. Bag, apartment keys, Ipods etc and even her towel and flip flops went! It really unnerved them.
Witnesses said it was 3 men - though the Guardia Civil seemed to think it would have been 2 men & 1 woman - and they seemed sure they were Romanian but didn't say how they knew that!

There were Romanian Gypsies 'working' in Murcia the week before last, one of them started coming towards me when I was standing in a clothes shop doorway (under the airconditioning vent as it was 95 degrees !) whilst my DD shopped.
I just sort of wagged my finger at her and shook my head as she approached and she walked away. I definatley think it's a case of beware of anyone who looks suspicious. She didn't cross the threshold into the shop, maybe the shops chuck them out if they spot them. It wasn't very busy as it was almost 2pm.
She was on her own it's more worrying when they 'work' in pairs, with one distracting you and the other working.
