We've just booked up to go back to Rhodes next June - our 3rd visit to the island. This time we want to do something that we've not done on our previous 2 visits - namely go into the Old Town of an evening and have a nice romantic meal for 2. Therefore can anyone recommend a restaurant/taverna in the Old Town where we could do this. Somewhere not too expensive would be nice.
Thanks
Andy, the prices in Rhodes Old Town tend to be pretty high compared to the outskirts. We went to the Hellenica at the rear of the Casino and found it very nice, but once again, pretty expensive. (Not Dear as we had VFM).

This is supposed to be one of the worlds top 10, or was. if you look down the forums it's on about page 4. Look for topics on Restaurants or Places to eat .
I haven't looked at the site lately, but I believe it was about €70 for a Meze for 2.

The Old Town is a bit more expensive but if you stay well clear of the main streets and squares there are some lovely places to eat. I don't think it's particularly romantic but Laganis Taverna on the edge of the Old Town does excellent food at reasonable prices. It's been a favourite of mine for many years and all the taxi drivers know the name so you could find it easily enough.
I couldn't tell you where we went (memory is too short) - but a dive instructor I'd been with directed us round the back streets to a place full of Greek accents. Very, very cheap, very good and we were proudly informed their fries were made from real potatoes. Had a whole octopus, the little Symi shrimps, sea urchin dip, swordfish etc all at about 3 Euros per portion.
Try wandering some of the back streets of the old town and see what you find - or befriend a real local and ask his advice... worked for us. Avoid the restaurants with a waiter lurking outdside to entice you in.
