Looking for a cruise for my mum...she's 76 and never been on one before
She doesn't want a fly cruise she would prefer to go from a uk port....she only wants to go for 7 days or so....maybe up to 9 days but no more. Would prefer a Med cruise but open to suggestions.....Oh and she wants to go mid Oct this year....Oh and she doesn't want one of those fancy ones where you have to dress up every night for dinner.
Doesn't want much does she....she just sprung this on me recently.....I've had a quick look but most of them are ridiculous prices for a single traveller
Any suggestions
She won't get to the Med ex-UK in 7 days.
As she wants something very specific it may be worth asking a cruise specialist.

Tango, have a look at the link it's not specific to singles but tells you of UK departing this year, some a bit pricey, if I can think of any more I'll post, Fred Olsen I think does singles?

Karen I did tell her she'll be lucky to get a 7 day cruise as it takes a good 2 days sailing to get anywhere ......she doesn't wan't to fly as the last time she had terrible ear pain on the flight home ..... in the past she's had glue ear and grommets so she thought it might be because of that.......
I've told her to go to the Dr telling him of her intention to fly and maybe he can put her on a course of treatment to help.
Pinky I've had a look at Fred Olsen and made some enquiries.....most of their singles are already taken for Oct.....she's left it to late for a UK sailing cruise.....she'll get a fly cruise easy.....I'm trying to sway her to Thompson's as I think it will suit her better.....the prices are more in her budget as well

Spent the last 2 days now looking for a cruise holiday for mum....only ones sailing from uk were as Luci suggested for more than 7 days and as Pinky said ridiculous prices.....Eventually persuaded her to fly....so spent the last day looking at fly cruises from Bristol or Cardiff.....no go....she's left it to blooming late and all the single cabins have now gone
So change of plan now she wants any holiday abroad but now she wants ones that will either pick her up from home or a coach holiday as she doesn't fancy having to cope with going from the airport on her own.....it's not this end it's the foreign end that's freaking her out.....so I've got to start all over again
Tried Travelsphere and Titan....no luck....any other suggestions......
I'll leave it in this thread for now and if I get no luck I'll start another

We're in danger of being reminded that we have gone off topic but my Mum and Dad and their friends have done some coach tours that included local pick-ups with Leger and speak very highly of them. It might be worth having a look at

Not sure what they'd still have available this late in the day but it would give her an idea of what is possible.

There is also this company if your mum is looking for coach holidays. I have used this company and, although to my mind, they are quite expensive, they were a godsend to my parents, who loved the personal attention. I travelled with them with my mum, though only in the UK and can honestly say, they took great care of all their passengers.

Thanks I'll have a look at both now
Tango 2 things Thomson will be offering cruises from the UK next year to the Baltic and Norway areas sailing from Harwich or Newcastle local pick ups can also be arranged.
Alternatively she could try a river cruise I did one last year down the Danube it was a Shearings cruise with a fly or coach option and for an extra £32 pound you could have door to door pick up and return.

Hi Tango. A lady in my keep fit class has just come back from a Norwegian cruise ex Liverpool and said it was fantastic. She usally prefers cruising round the Med but really enjoyed it. I can't remember the cruise line. Possibly Princess.I think it was somewhere between 8 and 10 days.
If your mum is still looking for a cruise this might fit the bill

they sail from different uk ports and late availability is usually good. We went with them last year and they are certainly not too formal. Only trouble is the single supplements are so high!

Thank you Kate
I had already emailed them for a quote for a single cabin.....on their Spain,Portugal ,Morocco cruise costing £599 for 2 sharing they wanted £1079 for mum.....she can't afford that sort of price....I have found one on Island escape -£849
she will have to fly from Cardiff though....and also one with Solo holidays £795 from Heathrow on Norwegian Epic.....
At the moment though it's on hold as she lost her dog really suddenly on Thursday...he was only 6 years old and she's devastated so won't even entertain going at the moment....so it's just as well we didn't book really......TBH the way things are at the moment I can't see her going until she gets over this.....but thanks everyone for your help it will come in very useful for if and when she feels up to going

Thanks Nick....sorry I missed your post for some reason....Mum and dad used to go on Shearings holidays together before he got ill.
They have done the Rhine one and also a Brussels coach trip and a couple of Amsterdam ones......
The Norway option sounds ok if she decides to go maybe next year....at the moment though all holidays are on hold
Thanks Hilary....I'll look into that one as well when she's ready
