Although it doesn't have a beach, I would recommend Kalkan(scroll back to January 14th, 2010 to find Discussion on Kalkan topic, also visit website Enjoy Kalkan). The hotel I recommend is Hotel Nur which has it's own website and you can book direct. The nearest beach is at Patara, 15 minute drive, which is in a conservation area and meets your criteria. You are spoilt for choice of restuarants, too many to do in a fortnight, most are on roof terraces overlooking the bay. There is a weekly market but the big one is held in Fethiye. Fethiye and Saklikent Gorge are within 90 minutes drive. The other way you've got Kas and Myra, about 30 minutes away.

kalkan is more commercial than dalyan( in my opinion)and caters mainly for us brits, there are alot of british owned properties in this area, although i must say it is a nice enough place, the drive from the airport is quite a long one too (around 2.5 hours).Personally i would recommend akkyaka if it is a smaller more intimate resort you are after, there are only a few hotels here and it is popular with local turks (particually on a sunday)when they all come to use the beach with their families.Selimye (around 20 miles out of marmaris) would be ideal for you it is pretty, small, quaint, surrounded by lovely countryside and totally unspoilt however i think there is only one hotel here that i can think of so this might be an issue and the drive from dalaman airport would take around 2.5 hours also.On the bodrum side of turkey Yalikavak is also relativley unspoilt.try anatolian sky our friend in turkey used to rep for them and she dealt with selimye.

jillywally,

You may want to have a browse through members Resort Reports. It might give you an idea of the various resprts in turkey and help narrow things down for you.

Must admit that it sounds as though Akyaka would suit your needs perfectly. A decent drive from the airport as well. You could also do some research on Datca - at the bottom of the peninsula where Marmaris is.

Agree that you should look at Akyaka, we stayed at the Ottaman Residence by the river for one night a couple of years ago, which was wonderful. Also woul agree you should look at Selimiye and other villages on the Bozburun peninsula. It is a really beautiful area, lots of lovely little bays with a few restaurants and bars, but completely unspoilt and uncommercialised. Ideal if you have a car to explore the area, I'm sure there are lots of lovely walks around this area. Another place you may want to consider would be Datca as mentioned in the previous post, which is very unspoilt but quite a large town with a lovely, bustling harbour and nice beaches. Very few English people seem to go here, but lots of other nationalities do visit with their boats. Turunc of course is also a possible, but has a narrow shingle/sand beach which may not be what you are looking for, although if you have a car would be a great base. The village is lovely though and there is no shortage of great restaurants, many people find once they are there they don't tend to want to venture far because it has such a lovely atmosphere!
Good luck, I'm sure wherever you choose you'll have a great time.
