My wife and I recently returned from two weeks at the Laguna Azul and had an amazing time! Weather was really warm enough for us! Never written a review before, so bear with me as I put my view forward.
We travelled with Thomas Cook and had no problems at all.

Rooms were spacious, and cleaned every day with no problems with the towels, bed linen or standard of cleaning. Every day was an adventure as to how the towels would be folded, a nice touch. Mini-bar re-stocked every two days.

Pools, and there are a few of them were all cleaned every day. Main pool is busy in the afternoon with the activities, but there are another two quieter pools to choose from. Fresh towels are available every day, or twice a day if you need them! Never had to get up at stupid o’clock to get a sunbed, although the shaded ones do go first, but I didn’t travel all that way to sit in the shade, so no worries from me!

Not really a beach person, but it was great here. A mixture of sand and fine shells and gravel type of beach. Water doesn’t get too deep too quickly and is always very warm! Nice and clear and a variety of water sports are available from the beach. It also has its own beach shack where you can have your drinks etc, ell included as part of your package.

The main buffet has everything to satisfy the most picky of eater. I am lucky in that I am not a fussy eater, however my wife is. At no time did she have any problems with a choice of meals. As a side note, and it’s just a personal thing here. If you aren’t sure of something, take a little bit and try it, then if you like it, go back for more! We saw on several occasions, folks heaping it on the plate, taking one bite and then leaving it! Such a waste! The Romantico restaurant does nice big thick steaks to die for; Italian has delicious swordfish steaks as well. Other specialised restaurants are the Cuban, Japanese and the newly opened Gourmet.

Entertainment appeared to be satisfactory. We only attended a few shows in the theatre which were of good quality. The magic show is very entertaining for all ages. We chose to spend the evening in the Lobby bar with the resident pianist until 9.00pm and then a different local band every night, some of which were of fantastic talent.

Drinks were great as well, not watered down and the cocktails were well made.

Staff were outstanding! Waiters and waitresses were always smiling and you never felt the need to tip, more sort off, you felt as if you wanted to tip as they really deserve it. I only had to go to the bar 4 times in the whole two weeks as we were always asked what we wanted and told to take a table and they would serve us! Proper service!

There were a few flies around, but not as bad as some folks made out. The hotel is working on this at present, and to be honest, it’s not as if it was polluted with them!

The Lobby bar would be 100% if it was air-conned, but if you sit out in the patio area, or just in the doors with the slight breeze, it was fine!
That’s it, couldn’t fault it in any other aspect.
