Wish everybody would chill about this hotel. It really is not all that.

Sure, sunbed system is great but what about the overbookings, the sheer volume of weddings, the lack and state of childrens play equipment, the incredibly poor entertainment, the cost of drinks, the incredibly busy road outside that takes you half hour to get across.

Our family were placed directly above the bar area - noise was a joke, complained - took 3 days to get moved - other families had similar problems. Tried to flog stays at sister hotel or travel to Egypt to ease overbookings.

Listen, we are a normal family ( mid thirties plus 3 year old) who wished and paid for a relaxing holiday in a full sea room and that is what we and you should expect.

I hope that you take this posting in the spirit it is intended - a little balance please - one of the reasons for us staying here was reading all of these glowing reports before we booked.

This may sound contradictory, but we still had a good time, but that was driven by our relaxed outlook and some really cool people we met whilst we were there.

Oh, one final whinge - Paphos Airport is a real scream......but we are sure that you will all find that out for yourselves....................

Just returned from another fortnight at Alexander The Great.

As usual full marks for everything except the food. Staff, Cleanliness, Accomodation excellent. Food was as usual below par compared to everything else (which is a shame.

My advice to anyone attempting to stay here (if you can book a place) is to go Bed & Breakfast, and eat out in the evenings, for there are plenty of good restaurants nearby.

Staff in the hotel were friendly polite and always had a smile on their face.
Very clean hotel with lovely food served although sometimes not quite hot enough.

The happy hour which began at 5pm was used to its full advantage otherwise it could be quite costly.

Not much entertainment in the hotel although there were numerous bars restaurants only a stones throw away.

Allocated sunbed system fantastic we had over 20 people arriving on different days the hotel accomodated this and allocated sunbeds together for us for the duration of the stay.

I chose this hotel due to all the good reports I had read on it.
We got married in Cyprus and had our wedding reception at the hotel.

There are lots of wedding in Cyprus, and in the three weeks I was at this hotel, they had lots of receptions there, even the locals use it for their wedding receptions.

The sunbed system is a good idea, but as we were there for 3 weeks, and my parents only 2 weeks, when they went, the people who took their beds, tried to move us on too. We wanted to keep our beds as it was by the childrens pool, and on a grassy verge for our 2 year old daughters little sun tent to go on, to keep her out of the tent when it got too hot.

These people were so rude, they kept on moving their bed where the tent was.

They were a group of three families who meet up every year and were very clicky. They had no children with them, only a 14 year old boy. And they were an much older group than us, so I don't know why they behaved like that, or wanted to be by the childrens pool, but they managed to spoil our honeymoon, and ruin my daughters last week.

We paid for full sun view which was lovely, but we had a corner balcony which was very small, as was our room, and we had to squeeze a bed into it for our daughter.

Breakfast was lovely, a good choice of food. We only had one meal at the hotel, on FLAMBE night. It wasn't very nice.

Part of our wedding package with the hotel was a candle light dinner which they didn't want to give us, so we had to get our wedding company onto it. They were supposed to give us fruit in the room, they never. They were supposed to give us a wedding memento, they didn't.

They over bookied lots of people as they was offering trips to Lebanon, Egypt and their sister hotel.

Cocktails were cheap and nasty tasting and the Black Russian is the worst I have ever had, they don't even use Tia Mmaria or coke??? Snacks dear, but ok.

We waited over on hour for room service once, for our daughters chips! Just chips, amazing, I could have gone to the shop a bought them.

Rooms were not cleaned to a good standard, not dusting tables, or cleaning balcony. Kept giving us towels for two people, even though there was 3 of us in our room.

Busy road outside the hotel is a nightmare, there is a crossing up from the hotel, but it needs more - one nearer to the hotel.

Lovely family restaurant over the road. Themis.

Stayed in the Alexander the Great hotel. Kids spent most of the day in the pool, weather was great for March, sunshine every day.

Mealtime with 4 kids expensive eating out compared to previous years in Paphos. Great sandwich bar opposite the hotel saved our bacon, cheap delicious and filling. The English woman there was a fount of all knowledge and gave us lots of help and advice. Sophies choice in Peyia recommended by her was a fantastic place to eat.

The harbour was a good place to see and so was Akamas for its rugged natural beauty. Would definitely visit again.

Sun, sun, sun everyday was warm and sunny. Sea needed some work, beaches too, but the pool was fantastic.

We met a few good looking girls to chat to. Beer was a bit steep in price but we still managed to get legless.

Great bakers across from the hotel, nice looking girls in there but a smile occasionally from them would have been nice, magic sandwiches though and cheap.

Bar street was ok, but hate the touts trying to get you to come in the door. Many places were seasonal and closed.

Went to Trodos to a monastery, awesome, it was dripping with gold, but we left with our pockets empty.

A good time was had by all

This hotel is excellent and I would go back again without hesitation. Rooms were lovely and clean, we paid extra for a "side sea view" room which really wasn't worth it. If you can afford it pay for a full sea view room!

Breakfast was buffet style and loads of choice.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The system used for allocation of sunbeds by the pool is a brill idea and means you don't have to get up early to put your towels out!

There are some restaurants roughly opposite the hotel but to walk into the main part only takes 5 mins, it's about a 15 min walk to the harbour area - beware of the touts!

The only things I could criticise if I had to would be
1. The entertainment in the bar wasn't really up to standard for a 4* hotel and...
2. The drinks were expensive. Snacks were too from the pool bar, better to go to lovely snack shop opposite called "Posiedon" or something like that.

We've recently returned from 2 weeks holiday at Alexander the Great - our second visit to the Hotel. Very good quality Hotel in an excellent seafront location overlooking the ocean and a small beach. Rooms are very comfortable although ours smelt very strongly of cigarettes on arrival and the smell didn't really go for around 5-6 days (smokers please consider the people using the room after you!!) Mentioned this to Reception who arranged for the bedspreads to be changed immediately but that didn't really make much difference.

Definitely recommend the Hotel but wouldn't recommend paying extra for a side sea view - the main view of these rooms is of the roadside, although if you stand up and lean over a bit you can get a fairly good view of the sea. Balconies in these rooms also seemed smaller than the others - not worth the extra cost. The sea view rooms looked very nice though.

During September most of the guests are English couples in their 50s/60s and it appeared that many of them had visited the Hotel many times.

Pool area is very nice - there is a small beach down some steps adjacent to the pool area. OK but there was a lot of seaweed and it's rather pebbly when you're getting into the sea (some people had those rubber shoes which made it easier getting into the sea). Sunbed allocation system very handy.

Loads of restaurants close to the Hotel and Paphos harbour is within easy walking distance. Buffet breakfast at the Hotel is very good and we ate in the Liminaki taverna at the Hotel a couple of times - this too was very good. Pool bar food was overpriced - if you fancy a light snack, go across the road to a snack bar called Poseidonas (the one with the Pepsi parasols outside) - great sandwiches at a third of the price of the pool bar - and the lady that works there is lovely and friendly.

During our stay the Hotel were offering a free 3-day cruise to Egypt or a complimentary half board stay in their sister Hotel in Ayia Napa (Olympic Lagoon Hotel) to anyone who wanted to go - it seems they'd overbooked some of the rooms so were offering the trips to free up rooms. Guests who took up the offer were then upgraded to HB on their return to Alexander. We took up the Ayia Napa trip, as the beaches on that side of the island are far superior than the ones in Paphos and as the offer was towards the end of our 2 weeks stay, we were ready for a change of scenery. The Olympic Lagoon was a nice Hotel but not as good as Alexander - it was on the outskirts of Ayia Napa so not rowdy, and it was across the road from a beautiful beach called Landa Beach - we stayed there for 3 days and thoroughly enjoyed it. Alexander paid for our taxis to and from Ayia Napa - approx 1 hour 40 mins journey.

Definitely recommend the Hotel for all age groups although I would say it's more suited to couples than families.

We stayed in the Alexander the Great Hotel in Paphos on a Bed/Breakfast basis. There was a good selection to choose from.

Location excellent, only 15 mins to Harbour taking the sea walkway. Mainly English people staying on holiday.

Staff very friendly and polite.

Hotel towels changed every day and beach towels provided.

Sunbed allocation on arrival should be carried out by every hotel!

The hotel was over booked and were offering people a free trip to Egypt for 3 days on a cruise. Would have definitely taken them up on their offer if the time span had been right. I do however feel sorry for the poor people who were told 2 weeks before their holiday that the hotel was overbooked and offered alternative accommodation. As we booked this holiday last year we would have been upset if we had been told this. People book well in advance to get the accommodation/resort/ destination they want. Maybe this side should be looked at!!
