The hotel is kept very clean and the rooms although not spacious are adequate for two but would not be pleasant if the sofa bed was needed as space would then have been very tight.
The restaurant is best visited early for breakfast as it becomes more like a scrum if left too late and the staff appeared stressed at trying to clear and reset the tables. Taking meals in the terrace restaurant is a much calmer experience and the views out to the bay are just perfect. The food is OK to good.
The location is the best if you are looking for a beach holiday with children as it is clean, safe and you could not find a better beach. As you walk down to the main road were you can catch the bus you pass over a small river with ducks which small children would love.
Reception staff are helpful and will give you a bus time table.
Don't take beach towels as you can get them clean everyday from the hotel for a deposit of 10 euros per towel which is refundable

The hotel was in a lovely location and after visiting many parts of the island still thought it was the best, safe for swimming, a very laid back feel to the place but really enough to do as long as your not expecting any wild night life!!
Friendly resturants and bars.The staff were polite and helpful and the rooms were kept clean and tidy.The room we stayed in was fine for the two of us but I think it would be quite cramped if a third bed had to be added! We were actually on the side of the hotel but the view was still great.
Small balcony but for the time we spent on it it didn't matter! Had plenty to choose from food wise but the same each night! but hey I put on seven pounds in seven days so it couldn't have been that bad! and thats half board!!!
Entertainment well ok got better after the second gin & fanta! The hotel catered for familys but I noticed a lot of the children were very young under the age of eight! Not sure if older children would enjoy it but saying that I'm planning on taking my eleven year old next year.
The position of the hotel and the choice of different things you can do by day makes it a place that I would be surprised if anyone could fault it.

We really loved the hotel, it was spotlessly clean, the food was plentiful, the location was the best on the Island.
The staff were all very friendly and did all they could to help you and make your stay comfortable. The entertainment was good and the people who ran the kids club were excellent with the children.
In the 2 weeks we were there we met many people who had been staying at the hotel for the last 15 years. We didn't want to come home.
Can't wait to go back again.

We were located on the 4th floor in a room that had a fantastic view of the bay. Some other rooms dont have such a good outlook such as rooms to the side of the hotel and some rooms at the front might have the view obscured by trees.
Hotel and room were very clean and staff were consistently friendly and helpful. Food in the 2 restaurants was buffet style with plenty of choice.
Evening entertainment started at 10 each night for about an hour - mainly tribute type acts - some not too bad.
Pool area was very nice and we did'nt have difficulty getting loungers.
We really liked this hotel and I would describe it as being particularly suited to those who want a quieter holiday.

We arrived on the first day of the season and were very dissapointed. We were put on the 7th floor,and when we asked for a lower floor, we were told that the 6th floor and below were closed, due to lack of guests. The italian section of the dining room was closed, as was the al a carte and outdoor restaurant. The mini club was closed. Also the gift shop, pattisserie, daytime entertainment and all watersports. The cyber cafe had 4 computers which were all broken. We had to be moved rooms as there were construction workers errecting and removing scaffolding all week, and all the corridor and the rooms on either side of us were being decorated. (from 7. 30a.m. onwards and all day).Location was good. staff indifferent,and entertainment dire!

This was our second visit to the Gavilanes. The bay and the beach are excellent. The hotel is spotless and although on this occasion we visited late in the season (1st OCt - 8th Oct 2003) staff were efficient and evening entertainment was good.
The pool area was clean and well maintained with a childrens pool on the upper level. Food was not too good this time - end of season maybe but is is essential to hire a car for one or two days and have a look around the island

The hotel was in a great location - opposite the beach. We were on the 5th floor and our view was of the side road. But we were not in our rooms a lot so it did not matter with us.
The food was excellant - two restaurants with so much choice!! The pool was just around the the corner from our room, up on 6th floor. We always got sun loungers. The hotel is set in a cliffside so there is not much breeze, but the pool is cool and has a waterfall at one end. Hotel staff were excellant and were very helpful. There is a mixture of people staying there, but alot of them are british. I would go again but maybe earlier in the year.

We loved staying in this hotel in a very beautiful area.
Near the hotel there is the possibility of making walks to many coves.
On the 5th floor we had a huge view on the sea and the beach.
Very good food with a lot of variation.

We have also stayed here a few times and so far have not found a prettier resort.
The hotel is beautifully decorated and could not be in a better position and the resort itself has just enough in the way of shops, bars etc.
Our only slight criticism would be some of the food at the hotel was poorly cooked, cold and uncooked in some cases!
However the desserts were excellent and everything else makes up for it, we will be returning again.

My wife and I just returned from a trip to Sol Gavilanes and were sorely disappointed. Cala Galdana is the tackiest town on an otherwise beautiful island and the neon orange Sol Gavilanes signs are the focal point of this eyesore. The staff pulled a Jekyll and Hyde routine of being quite helpful or completely obnoxious, depending on who you spoke with. The food was plentiful, but anything served past 10 a.m. was fairly disgusting. That pool sure does look nice though doesn't it? Good luck finding a chair. At least our room was pleasant and the view was great and the other guests were friendly folks... although a much older crowd than we had expected. We would recommend trying elsewhere.
