We stayed in the Club Palace section of the Rubicon Palace and although it is more expensive, it is definitely well worth the extra. We had a suite which was down on the seafront as are all the Club Palace rooms. They are changed twice a day, you get a weather forecast and a chocolate on your pillow every evening! Plus you get tea/coffee making facilities in the room which is quite unusual.Don

It is dificult to fault this hotel. Large number of rooms but never seemed crowded even when full.

Our room was in the same block as the English Pub, but the insulation was so good that we never heared any noise.

Although the hotel describes itself as " on the sea front" it fronts on to the (walking only) promanade and the immediate beach is rocky. The nearest sandy beach was Playa Flamingo about 2km walk, but we did all our swimming in the many hotel pools which are very safe for children. Even the main pool is only 1.4m at its deepest.

Playa Blanca was 3km and the hotel provided a free coutesy bus. Taxis are plentiful and cheap

The hotel complex is huge (I think the rep said it was 2sq Km) though it was well laid out; it did take us a day or so to work out where everything was, though once sorted everything was logical and easy to get to. The main building houses the reception, 2 restaurants (buffet style), piano bar, card room, small shop, patios, internet area, conference rooms, pool table area and loads of open plan informal seating and there are pond/fountains on each of the 3 floors. Initially I was confused by the floors being numbered 2, 4 and 6 (ground level

Sorry to disappoint you with a bad review , but my mum and dad came back from the Rubicon on the 1st July. Dad had to call the doctor for mum at 6 oclock on the morning she was coming home because she had very bad diarrhoea and sickness .
On their return my mum took to her bed , she was very poorly. We have had a doctor to see her and he has diagnosed salmonella...... She is 80 and could have done without this .Neither ate out of the hotel and mum says she can remember eating some turkey before she fell ill ....lets hope no one else had the turkey ..................

Huge impressive lobby, good check-in. May seems to be quiet in Lanzarote, and the hotel was no exception. It seemed like the Marie Celeste at times. Probably explains why we only paid 50% of brochure price.Rooms O.K., but nothing out of the ordinary, and not as impressive as the hotel in general. Almost mind-boggling choices at meal times, and generally of a high standard, although I had something that disagreed with me the first night, and this put me off buffet food a bit. Chefs on hand to cook to order (omlettes etc at breakfast)and plenty of staff. Dont know if it was because the hotel was not full, but only one of the 2 dining rooms was open, and the pub was closed down - no reason given.Plenty of entertainment, but the excellent musicians in the piano lounge spent most of the time entertaining themselves, as so few people were their to watch and listen.Outside, excellent pools and plenty of sunbeds. The hotel is massive - a "train" is on hand to take guests to their rooms at the furthest parts of the hotel, but thankfully our room was close to all the main amenities. It is classes as being in Playa Blanca, but anyone who came here 4-5 years ago wouldnt recognise the place. It has expanded rapidly, and the Rubicon is a good 10 mins drive from the harbour - nothing is within easy strolling distance after dinner, so if you dont fancy the hotels entertainment in the evening, its a car/taxi trip into town

Just trying to give a little back, having used this site so many times.

Nearly always make our own arrangments, always looking for a' value' deal and travelling at times that most suit us, rather than what high street agents tell you are available.
For our sins, only ever fly out of Gatwick, very convienient, for flights use all online search facilities, ba.com, brittania etc, use all teletext searches, www.med-hotels.com, kwik travel, and security travel, who I have to say in our experience have been very good.

Flew out by413a 14/03/04 brittania dep 13.55 approx
arrive ace 17.30 approx
returned by413b 28/03/04 brittania dep 17.55 approx
arrive gat 21.30 approx
nice flights and recommended

Booked to stay at the H10 Rubicon Palace Hotel in Playa Blanca via security travel, 14 nights for two of us 900 half board.
Airport transfer 20 / 25 mins taxi 30 euros

Having previously stayed at H10 hotels, including the 5 star Melonaras Playa in gran canaria, that was good,
but the 4 star Rubicon is better in our opinion.
What to tell you, well the place is vast, very easy check in, excellent information at check in, having a bit of experience at getting the best out of a break, at check in we asked for saftey deposit key, fridge key, extra coat hangers and pillows, which arrived instently. Our room 5094 was great, better than you would expect for a 'basic room' excellent views sea and hotel, ( or at least part hotel as the place is massive).

Tip take a travel kettle,(or ask for a kettle at reception) your fav brew /coffee or what ever, on arrival walk in to lobby bar and order dos cafe con leche ( two coffees) and uno leche freeo grande, large cold milk so that for starters in your room you can make all hot drinks you want! sounds mundane bit if you like a coffee / tea v early/late this is so simple, and keep the cups from the origenal coffee order!

Room immaculate, about 20 free tv channels, four English, Sky news, cnn etc,Eurosport some football shown on various channels, and it seemed you can subscribe to Canal plus? we didnt but apparently shows uk football?

Cold bottled water already in room on arrival, and totally unexpected, bottle of champagne and large fruit spread in room gratis. Our room was great, but it seemed if you wanted a different room / view this was not a problem. Also we were offered a 25% discount on a meal in the a la carte Valencia resturent, which we tried, charged us 30 euros after discount for three course meal and decent wine which seemed fair, and excellent food, but the food in the main resturents was so good, it just seemed a waste of extra money, to give you an idea, as mentioned having stayed at h10 melonaras playa 5 star, the food their was vauxhall conference, at the rubicon premier league, unbelievable choice, breakfast evening, as much as you could eat and more, all you have to do is ask, and have a real proper look at what is available.

The frendliest group of hotel staff ever encountered, the whole place seemed to be constently cleaned, and yet if you wanted peace quite solitude it is there in spades, sunbeds everywhere around the five + pools, and sunbeds eveywhere else as well, best day / night entertainments team ever encountered at a hotel, something going on all the time if thats your thing, or different pools quite / peaceful.

Do try once the Thalaso health spa,(in the hotel grounds) 12 euros for five and a half hours total luxury. Weather was superb throughout, can sometimes be windy, but plenty of sheltered places, do not get caught out, plenty of protection.
last night Sat 27th , heavens opened rain like you have never seen, we were out in Playa, got soaked, on arriving back at our room, so was the room!, well not quite, but water getting in, within two minutes of reporting this to reception, I had the keys in my hand to a suite room 5098 ten yards from our room which was like a lux apartment, shame it was our last night! but hey fun ending, Sunday weather back brill, and by the way asked for a late check out, no problem 12 euros.

Sorry for spelling, still not unpacked cases!
pps, if you like snorkelling / diving, hotel has in house team, free learning in pool etc everyday, and I kid you not an English pub on site!

Will go back 100%

What can I say absolutly wonderful, very spacious, very clean, very friendly. Our room had two 3/4 size beds, a sofa bed and a cot and we still had plenty of room. If you can't find something you like in the restaurant then there is just no pleasing you as there is definitly something for everyone. As we flew out on the 16th December they were getting ready for the busy christmas period, decorating one dining room and re-tileing one of the many pools but you wouldn't have known had you not been able to see them they were ever so quiet. childrens entertainment very good a little disco early every evening that was over with before the adult entertainment started. Quite a walk from the resort centre but a very nice one along the coast line and is just footpath so no cars to worry about. So good were going again this December. One thing I would say though is that the hotel is so vast I'm not sure I would like to be there in the busy summer periods.

This is a truly amazing hotel. The staff are very friendly and attentive, the food is outstanding, (the choice is unbelievable) and the entertainment is 1st class, the Animacion staff seem to work 24 hrs. The Daisy club is excellent and very safe and the mini-disco was the highlight of our children's holiday. Rooms are very spacious and clean.

We had a fantastic time and didn't want to come home. One year on and both my children are still talking about it, so much so that they have decided that if we don't book our summer 05 holiday at The Rubicon, they won't be coming!!!

Only downside is the distance to Playa Blanca town, approx 45-60 mins (with small children).
