While you were visiting the Golden Sands were you approached about Timeshare?

We were staying at the Gillieru Harbour in July and were called in our room and offered the "opportunity" of spending the day at the beach and viewing the new hotel. We declined.

One of our fellow guests took up the offer as he was given to understand that the owners of the Gillieru were involved with the running of the new hotel.

They were picked up in a minibus and then called at other hotels to pick up other couples. When they were on the bus they were given a piece of paper to sign to say that they would attend a presentation at the Golden Sands. By this time they began to suspect that this was a timeshare/holiday club scam.

When they arrived at the Golden Sands they told their "hosts" that they felt that they had been co-erced to attend under false pretences. The girl at the Golden Sands said they knew why they were going as they had signed a paper agreeing to attend the presentation. Upon explaining that this paper had only been handed to them once they were on the minibus, the girl apologised and immediately arranged for a taxi to take them back to the Gillieru.

Has anybody else had a similar experience and does anybody know if the owners of the Gillieru have anything to do with the Golden Sands as it seems as if the approaches to their guests were done by arrangement with them.

Yes as you now already know Fiona this is an entirely new hotel that replaced the old Golden Sands.

Mandy yes they did approach us in the Coastline Hotel, part of the same Island Hotels group as the SAS Raddison Golden Sands Hotel, but we firmly declined saying that we intended to visit the place ourselves. On both visits to the Golden Sands we did our own thing and was not approached at all by the timeshare sellers. I have to say that there were groups of people being escorted round but nobody bothered us at all! In any case we can't even remotely afford timeshare so whatever they do we just haven't got that sort of money anyway and I was quite open about this to the girl who approached me in the Coastline.

For most of our holiday we weren't approached by any slimeshare creeps in the street but towards the end a couple of cars pulled up and asked if we were English. Knowing some Welsh and having my son Rhys with me who speaks a fair bit now himself, we immediately started rabbiting in broken Welsh. They couldn't make out this tongue and whatever they said we simply replied and talked to each other in Welsh. They soon cleared off! What do you think Dave (from Anglesey)?

The SAS Radisson Golden Sands is a hotel i visit every time I'm over in Mellieha.

We usually order one (sometimes 2) bottles of wine and sit outside on the terrace enjoying the wondeful views and free entertainment. I have never been approached by holiday club share whilst on their premises. 8)

We stayed at the new Golden Sands last January having accepted a weeks bed and breakfast deal for £99 in the 5 star resort apartments which are the Timeshare half of the hotel. Superbly fitted out apartments. It had just opened for business
We spent a wonderful hour being coerced into buying timeshare but then enjoyed the rest of the week without any bother.
We did buy a flat of our very own which was always our plan but certainly NOT a timeshare there!
The hotel is top quality but way out of town.

Frankly the timeshare deals do not stack up at all. If you work out the service charges imposed on every timeshare owner annually you can see the company has already covered their building costs many times over without taking into account the actual rental costs! Then consider the state of the property in 10 years time after all those people have trashed it and they expect it too last for 40 years!! (Thats the deal) No way.
