I have been spending most of my time in Turkey now for the last three years. We live out in one of the villages not far from Kusadasi and every night, when we drive home late, the Jendarma are there checking the back roads and monitoring the traffic coming into the resort. They regularly stop and search cars and the level of inspection is far higher than in the UK.
I feel far safer there than I do in the UK.

and so you should whether it be turkey,Spain,Greece or any other European [style] country you have a much higher chance of getting killed crossing the road in the UK than being blown up there... don't panic unless you intend going into known trouble spots
