I have some exciting news.
I added my great grandfather and his four brothers to the Scots at War site.
And added a photo of my great grandad Andrew Munn.
Plus all their army details etc....I only added them two weeks ago too!!!!!
Well guess who saw it? My great grandads brothers grandson
So he would be my dads 2nd cousin as they share a great grandfather
And they are both called John

Can anyone confirm that they have the Bagpipes playing at Edinburgh Castle everyday at 11am?

And anyone been to the Green Welly, near Glen Coe?

The Green Welly is a favourite with hillwalkers and outdoor enthusiasts. I was last there about 15 years ago but they have a website http://www.thegreenwellystop.co.uk which has menus etc on it.
I can't confirm times for bagpipes at Edinburgh Castle but the last time I was near the castle there were pipers on the Royal Mile and at the castle.

A quick update.
I have heard from my great grandfathers brothers grandson.
(His grandfather was my great grandfathers brother.)
Amazing I have found a living descendant of the Munn's.
The family moved from Scotland to Liverpool though.
And some moved to Canada too.

And I have seen some great photo's A photo of my g grandfather's brother son's, amazing I am so pleased

Very pleased for you too Karen. Must be odd seeing photos of Relatives you didn't know you had until very recently..but very exciting too I'd imagine! Anyway,enjoy all the experiences with it and will keep looking in to see how things are going. Won't be long now until your holiday! Also hope you get some good weather when you're here. May wasn't a nice month,so hopefully by July we'll be making up for it with plenty of sunshine!

my gg grandparents on my mums side were from Ireland.
I do not know where abouts though. They were already in London by 1841, so they came over before the potato famine. All it says on their census, under place of birth is "Ireland"

I went to Tullamore once for Christmas and the New year, we passed through Dublin.

I knew they existed, I have their birth certificates, but I didn't know anymore about them.
But I have just has a shocked, I have found another Munn brother, he was born after the 1901 census, in 1902 that's why.
He went to live in New Jersey in March 1923, to live with his sister Jessie Munn.
I always wondered what happened to her.
I can feel a trip to Ellis Island coming on lol
Been there twice already
I hope we have good weather, it was very hot in Glasgow May last year.

But I am starting to think I have no living family left in Scotland, apart from my cousin Bill

I have traced William Munn (my great grandfathers brother) on the 1930 census in New Jersey.
He married a girl called Mammie
Both her parents were from Poland, she was born in NJ, and they have a son also called William.
So he is a American, Scottish, Pole

PS I am meeting John Munn on Tuesday

Lots more notes for my book.
And who said families were boring eh I am learning so much!!!!

It was a fantastic meeting.
He is a great guy, dad and I really enjoyed meeting him.
We swapped stories, and both learnt so much.
It seems I know so much more about the ancestors and family in Scotland, and it was great to be able to share all I had found with him.
We will all meet up again.
And he said I have inspired him to go to visit Scotland now
My dad has now put a Mac in front of my surname

I have a Lawyer friend in Washington, and she is going to help with my NJ research.
If anyone can find out, she can.

Can anyone recommend a whisky?
I don't really think I would like the "peat" tasting ones
I am a Bourbon drinker, any similar to buy in Scotland?

The peaty malts are definitely an aquired taste..Lol...and they give you one heck of a hangover.
I quite enjoy a wee Glenfiddich now and then, it's quite pleasant...although I mainly drink Vodka to be honest,which was much to my Dad's disapproval..Lol. "Drinking that Russian muck" Sacrilege I think he called it??!!

I don't like the peaty whisky either, so I suggest you try a Dalwhinnie or a Bunnahabhain malt whisky.

Have had a squeemish experience after a few Laphroaigs and had previously sampled Ardbeg,which I just couldn't take to at all,but will build up some courage to give some more of the less peaty ones a try.

The island malts tend to be the peaty ones and the Speysides are less peaty.

Fiona have you tried Black Vodka, it's lovely.

I wanted to try the Old Kilpatrick or was it Clydebank Mmmmm I will have to sample a few in the Pot Still.

Yes,have only experienced some of the peaty Malt whiskies from Islay and have a cousin who's still working in one of the distilleries there. My Father and his Father were from Islay although my Paternal Grandmother was from Fort William.

(My Maternal Grandfather's parents were both from Spain originally,but that's going way off topic!!..Lol.)

No,I haven't tried Black Vodka Will try and get to sample it some day too,although these days I'm a bit of a light weight when it comes to any alcohol I'm not used to. Maybe that's an age thing?..Lol. The OH looks on here too very regularly,so no doubt he'll be looking to try them ALL as soon as he can.
