We have booked to go here in August 2005 with Balkan Holidays.
I am finding very hard to find any details about this hotel.
The kempinski hotel group don't seem to own it

You are now the third person to have independently discovered the unsettling truth that this hotel is NOT a member of the Kempinski group. Two of us have emails from Kempinski verifying this. Have a look at http://www.beachbulgaria.com, go to the discussion page, and put Kempinski in the search section.
It should have been opened for 2004, but in September was a half built shell. If you have any doubts that it will be fully finished for your holiday, you have a great opportunity to change your booking at no cost to you, since it is not the Kempinski hotel you thought you were booking!!

I have spoken to Thompson this week, who I booked with - they have confirmed that the Hotel will be opened by 1st June. (Hold my breath on that).
The issue of the Kempinski, all I was told is that it was going as planned.

I am going on 8July and we passed the hotel every day last year it was not even half built ..So will let you know if it is opened or not . Ihope it is good news i bring back for you as it looked as if it is goin to be a fab hotel 
Yes the Kempinski does look as though it will be great but I very much doubt that it will be suitable for anyone with any walking difficulties. Its up the hill and from the prom it will be a very steep walk up in front of the hotel or a rather long less steep hill behind the Admiral, Sirena and Zlatna Kotva hotels.
Unless of course they've put in a stairlift from the beach, which I dont think they will have somehow.

Where id this hotel situated in Golden Sands. If it is the one where the road turns to Varna, workman were still working on that one on Thursday of this week and I would say the view from the road would say at least another four weeks to complete outside, I do not know about grounds or inside.It is painted a vivid yellow and orange, certainly does not blend in with the Trees. Hi Patka, obviously not the one, as the hotel I have been seeing is being built on New Site right opposite the main entrance to Golden Sands it lays right in the corner on other side of road, cannot find it in 2005 0r 2006 Balkan Brochure. Cheers Tonyt.

Still can't see it being open this summer, don't think the group will allow clients into an unfinished hotel, where all the advertised facilities are not available.

The truth be told I tend to agree with you - the Kempinski Group are running to such a high standard, they are not going to jepordise this by opening the hotel early with things imcomplete and services unavailble.
But until Thomson have confirmed the hotel will not be ready I cannot do a lot really.

Just checked the Kempinski Development Website - it is now stating opening end 2005.
But when I spoke to Balkan Holidays they are still looking at beginning of July.

Our travel agent has given us a guarantee the hotel is going to be ready for opening on the 15th July. They haven't given us the option to change as yet.

Just been on the Kempinski web site & tried to 'book' Now if they were going to open next week I would have thought the booking procedure would have been in place by now!!!

I spoke to a kempinski rep at the begining of the month and he had no idea of when the hotel would be opening.
I have spoken to Thomson about changing my hotel, they basically said unless Balkan say its not going to be ready its gonna cost me.

Try 'booking' on Balkan site, any date and any airport, strangely it comes up as 'this accommodation is unavailable'.
