Only problem is that the drains/sewers always seem to stink by there and so we always move on quickly.

For fans of the IKEA restaurant, that are staying down in Playa Blanca - fear not! The FT in the industrial estate on the right as you come into PB from Yaiza now has it's restaurant open. Rumour has it that it's a cracking place for cheap and lovely grub! Chicken bocadillo for €1.50.

Haven't been yet (although we tried a few days ago... and it was shut). But we'll let you knnow when we have.

Went to "Great Wall" next to the harbour in Playa Blanca last week. The food was very good - the duck especially was excellent. Thought the service left a bit to be desired... but then found out that the poor lass was new - so we'll excuse her for that. There were 4 of us, and we had:

Wonton soup (my favourite!)
BBQ spare ribs
Seaweed
Duck with all the pancakes and trimmings (the plum hoisin suace was superb)
Chicken curry
Beef in black pepper sauce
Prawn toast
Fried rice
Something in satay sauce (I didn't try that)
An odd rice dish on a sizzle platter
Beef fillets on a sizzle platter (really succulent thin beef steak)
Prawn crackers

Oh, 2 drinks each plus the freebie shots at the end in the nekkid glasses. Total cost was a little over €90. Couldn't face the walk home, as we were so full... so got a taxi instead.

What are the best places for a group of 8 to eat in Puerto Del Carmen?

Pretty much most places reallylight - it depends what type of food you are after.

For our IKEA fans - had a rapid snack in there today whilst mooching about for kitchen stuff. Well needed, and much appreciated. As for the FT cafeteria in PB now - it's never blimmin open!!!

Best takeaway pizza in Playa Blanca (in case I haven't mentioned it in here before) is 34 Limones in Punta Limones. It's in the little square opposite The Inn Plaice. We always get our pizza from there now, at least once a week. The Tex Mex pizza is fab! And they do all sorts of other stuff on the menu too. Yum! Oh, and you can eat in if you want to.

Last night, for hubby's birthday, we wanted to go to the Indian Tandoor House, which is always excellent - and our first choice. However, because they are having a refurb in the next few days, they were closing early. Gutted!!! So we decided to go to Spices, having had a nice meal there a few weeks back with friends.

The service was sloppy last night - and as for the food... well, it was appalling. Alan had chicken jalfrezi - which he said was by no means a jalfrezi - just a curry like sauce and a few chillies. I had chicken dansak... which tasted like the chicken had been boiled, and there was no other consistency to it. I couldn't eat much of mine - although Alan finished all of his (he was hungry). When he went to complain... the Spanish staff were rolling their eyes as if to say "Oh dear... not ANOTHER complaint". The chap that he'd complained to just stood there with his mouth open.

In the meantime... another table arrived... and I said that I hoped their meal was better than ours. They too had tried to go to the Indian Tandoor House.

Maybe it was because it was quite late... but whatever the reason... the food was shi*e... the service was dire... and we received no apology.

We will NOT be going back.

Looking forward to travelling to Puerto Del Carmen from the 12th July. Was hoping to ask for a bit of adivce as our first wedding anniversary is occuring while were in Lanzorate. Staying near the Old town can anyone recommend a romantic restaurant for an evening. Not overly concerned about cost as she deserves a treat for putting up with me for a year! Both really enjoy our food and she's a big fan of fish, any tips greatly appreciated.

I went to Puerto Viejo in the old town twice last week, as we had rellies over! Not particularly romantic, but I had a lovely meal both times. I had the salmon pate/mousse to start with, followed by the seabass (lubina) in salt, and then the chocolate souffle for puds!!! Perfect :cheers

The restaurant in the old town, overlooking the harbour, is very nice. The one painted blue. They have a very good fish selection.

Nigelm, for a great Indian restraunt, try Steve's Balti House in Matagorda, it's about 3/4 euros in a taxi from PDC.

Not been to Lazarote Ikea yet but do they do a good breakfast? We go to our local (uk) one for breakfast and it is fab.

Nope! LOL They only start serving food at 12.00 :)

Christine... if you like your cooked breakfasts, then nip into Costa Teguise and try the British Cafe, in the square to the right of the main square, if that makes sense. It's my favourite on the Island (bit of a hike from Playa Blanca just for a fry-up though, so I try to orchestrate a morning trip up). They've just reopened after a couple of weeks closed - the terrace has all been redecorated.

God... now I'm craving her hash browns!

Are there any nice tapas bars in Playa Blanca, I love Tapas,

The Brisa Marina in Playa Blanca is excellent, if a bit pricey. Watched the Euro 2008 final there and the atmosphere was fantastic.

Tipico Canario along a bit before you reach the corner to walk round to Playa Dorada was the best restaurant we ate in. Very reasonable and the sea bass was to die for.

Honourable mention for the pizzas at Mamma Rosso.

Completely agree with Robertk's recommendations - especially Brisa Marina (their fish stew is fantastic, as is the pulpo.

Mamma Rossa also offer you the menu from the Mexican place upstairs too. Not as good as Emma's Cantina in Puerto del Carmen... but a fine alternative if you're in Playa Blanca. Lovely burritos.

My favourite tapas in playa Blanca are from a little Spanish bar in the industrial estate (well kept secret amongst the locals, but as he now wants to go onto our nightlife site... I guess we should share really) ... but also try Taberna Godina in CC Papagayo. Their's are excellent. We tried the tapas at the Spanish place to the left as you face Mamma Rossa, and they were very good - but I thought they were expensive compared to equally good places along the front.

Up in CC Mulata which is by the Natura Palace Hotel is a place called Pinxtos - and it was the first place I had tapas here. Highly recommended. then nip a couple of doors along to Transylvania for Romanian fayre - my mouth is watering just thinking about their menu!

Hope you dont mine me asking another question, a week to go now and I've switched into holiday mode!

I'm guessing there are lots of Chinese food places to eat in PDC, any recomendations as to the better ones? My wife loves chinese so having a good 'tip' before we go would be great - thanks

The Hong Kong, which is on the front almost opposite the Casino, is very good. It's also good value - especially the set menu. We used to like the Slow Boat 2 at the bottom of Calle Doramas, but they changed to mainly buffet and we were a bit disappointed. However, daughter went recently , ordered from the main menu, and was pleased with it.
Have a great holiday!
