Going by last years reports from Chelsea Boy, it seems that the very beginning of October can be quite warm, providing you have no rain you should be fine to sunbathe. It seems like high 20's (Celcius) is the norm but there is always that chance of a few days rain
If you are truly sun worshippers (a bit like myself) you should consider end August / beginning of September. My wife and I have recently got back and we went from 3rd to 17th September, we never saw any clouds at all and it was lovely and hot. I think the temperatures start to drop off towards the end of September though.
