The hotel is a small, friendly adults only complex situated on Bavaro Beach next door to 2 of it's 3 sister hotels (Tropical, Caribe Club and Bavaro Princess). PCP guests were free to use all facilities at the Tropical and Caribe Club Princess; however Tropical and Caribe Club were not allowed access to PCP. Bavaro Princess guests could use any and all facilities throughout the 4 hotels.

The hotel was generally very clean; with the only exception being the area of the swimming pool around the pool bar - however this area was such a hive of activity, I suspect the stains on the walls and floor of the pool, at this point where more to do with that, rather than any lack of hygiene. Rooms were very well kept with excellent maid service. Clean towels were provided daily in rooms irrespective of whether you hung them back up or left on floor - some hotels we have stopped in before have advocated doing this to indicate if you would like fresh towels or not.

The minibar in the room was kept well stocked, and on many nights staff would come around and knock on door to provide further top up and change beach towels if you desired (this was not an advertised service but we found it to be a nice touch). The rooms themselves were very spacious, with a nice, comfortable lounge area with sofa and pull out easy bed. There was also an excellent amount of storage in the rooms which we found very useful; whilst the electronic safety deposit boxes were provided for use completely free of charge and easy to program with your own personal code. The rooms are all air-conditioned and also have a rotary ceiling fan as well; which keep the rooms almost arctic in temperature at times but we were always thankful for when coming in out of the sun!

The hotel has 1 buffet restaurant and 4 a la carte restaurants for which you do not need to make reservations for. The breakfast service in the buffet restaurant was very good with a large variety to choose from; with a smoothie bar and omelette grill also in service. Lunch service could be taken in both the Mare Nostrum (a la carte by night) or the main buffet (breakfast was also available in the Mare Nostrum but was a very simplified service). As with breakfast there was a large variety of very good food available in the buffet or a pared down grill/snack service at the Mare Nostrum. Dinner could be taken in the main buffet or any of the A La Carte's, for which no reservation was needed. You could also opt to eat in the A La Cartes at the two adjacent sister hotels, but for these reservations were needed to be made at least one day in advance. The biggest problem with deciding where to eat is that it is guess work as to which restaurants will be open; as they selectively only open 1 or 2 a la carte on each site per night. Unfortunately there is no set pattern to this and no list to advise what will open when. The only guide to go on is the details of what each nights buffet will be; it is advisable to check this a day in advance at least (this information is displayed in guest services) and if you don't like it, start asking guest services which restaurants will be opened and plan accordingly. The food quality was generally excellent; the only area which was a big let down was sea-food. All sea-food we tasted throughout our stay seemed to be of a gritty and stringy texture; and at times quite greasy. For me this was very dissapointing as I adore seafood dishes.

The hotel's location on the beach is excellent; our main hang up was with the transfer as it is one of the furthest hotels in Bavaro from the airport. Although the transfer on booking was advertised as 25-30 minutes; in reality it took 1 hour 45 mins; as inevitably there were multiple drop offs before it would be reached. If you don't like long transfers it may well be worth looking at booking a private taxi transfer. As Bavaro is trying to develop around the resorts, PCP, as with a lot of hotels is quite set back from the main shopping areas which are a good 30 minute walk away. You will need to walk or get a taxi as the hotel shuttle service does not extend to Bavaro Princess which is opposite the Bavaro Plaza Shopping area.

The hotel staff were all very friendly and generally could not do enough for you. On our first morning my reactions spectacles arm came off losing both screw and washers. Serapio and the chef in the mare nostrum both came to my aid and helped with a temporary repair until i could get a screw to permanantly repair my glasses. The gardening staff are also all friendly, and if they see you walking through the grounds will offer to get you a fresh coconut straight from the palm tree. Upon accepting they climb the tree and get one; which they then open to allow you to drink the milk which is much tastier and more plentiful than imported cocnuts. The bar staff are also happy to then add in some "Vitamins" (the local rum) to your cocnut milk if you desire.

Most guests in the hotel seemed to congregate around the pool; the swim up pool bar or on the beach so the animacion team centred activities around the pool mostly. They were very good at making activities open to all without pressurising you to join in. There were also many other activities available within the complex eg archery, watersports, tennis, bicycles etc. The evening entertainment in the hotel took place in the lobby; though we often didn't stay for very long as they seemed to forget there were English speaking guests and performed almost exclusively in spanish and german. The Caribe Club Princess next door put on nightly shows in the sernata theatre which were much better organised and enjoyable.
