We stayed at the Mastines Hotel, on a half board basis from 12/08/06 to 19/08/06 with our 8 year old grand daughter.

The hotel was rather dated, but very clean. No air conditioning, but the huge ceiling fan was adequate for us. After all we were out every day, all day and the room was just a base to sleep. The rooms were cleaned daily and the towels changed daily too.

The food was good but became very repetative. chips with everything, and pizza, however there was always something we could find to eat. The breakfasts were very, very good. Excellent selection, but Its the first hotel we've ever stayed in that offered chips for breakfast ( and brocolli and green beans!!!) We did see a couple of young lads ( about 12 or 13 yrs) with breakfast plates piled up with chips and doughnuts every morning, topped with lashings of tomato ketchup!!!! Healthy or what!

The location of the hotel was excellent, we were on the eleventh floor and had an amazing, breathtaking view over the sea. The facilities at the hotel were very good. the swimming pool was excellent, really big and there were several of small pools for tiny children. Plenty of sun beds too. It was only about ten minutes walk into the town where there were plenty of shops, bars and resteraunts. The place is very English and we found it also to be quite expensive, same prices as home really, if not a bit dearer.

The hotel staff were friendly and polite.

We didn't rate the entertainment very much. It was alright if you are under 5, but for adults it was rather grim, very amatuer...

We wouldn't visit this hotel again, but only because we like to try different places. it is excellent for families with very young children. Nothing to do though for teenagers.

The room was never swept properly as there were things under the bed even when we arrived there were blond hairs all round the patio doors, which I have to say that we all have brown. The bathroom was clean but in a real need for an update as there were mould round the bath.

The food well what can I say, as before in the reports it was a good breakfast and plenty of choice. The evening meal was not very good. A lot of the time the meat and fish that was being cooked by the chef was not cooked through properly and raw.

The salad on the salad bar looked as though it had been there from the night before and so on. The location of the hotel was great with a lovely views and the staff were very good with the children and adults alike.

As was said in previous report they did have a show on that was adults only and it was a regular event. The show was disgusting with simulated sex games not really my idea of a family hols, but some people enjoyed it. On the whole the entertainment of an evening was very poor and through the day it was very good.

We stayed at Mastines/Chihuahuas Hotel in Callas de Mallorca.
We were put in Chihuahuas on arrival.

This is a great hotel to stay in very clean, rooms are cleaned and beds are made every day by friendly maids.

The food was excellent. Buffet style,breakfast...there was an amazing selection of foods and drinks... tea, coffee, hot chocolate, milk, water, juice and packets of nesquick for the kids.
There was a large selection of breads and cakes, melon, fruit, yoghurt.
Also full fried breakfast i.e. sausage, bacon, fried, scrambled and boiled eggs, omelette, beans, fried tomatoes and circle chips.
Eggs are cooked fresh in front of you by chef.
The evening meal was just as excellent. There was a varied selection of salad stuffs, soup, chicken, beef, pork, lamb, turkey, lasange, pasta, chips, roast potatoes, veg and pizza, plus plenty more, even something for fussy kids.

The hard working hotel staff were very pleasant and friendly, nothing was too much trouble for them.

Entertainment was excellent. Different activity clubs for age 0-adult throughout the day.
Night time entertainment was very good, kids disco every night then a show by hotel entertainment staff, or a cabaret act. The entertainment staff are all excellent and do everything they can to make your holiday a good one.

The location of the hotel was very good. It is on a cliff top and there stunning views of sea from every hotel room. It is well away from main roads and is only a 5-10 minute walk from town centre so not much noise.
Wwe would definitely visit this hotel again.

Stayed in the Chihuahas which was great, lovely sea & pool views. Really impressed with Hotel overall. Food was good lot of choice. Excellent location only 5-10 mins walk from main centre. Small funfair in the centre which is great for families with young children. Hotel kids club looked really good, they seemed to always be doing stuff with children & teenagers. Entertainment at the hotel was ok but kids enjoyed the mini disco at the Hotel each night.
Weather was great didn't see a cloud for a week - hot hot hot!!! Only negative for hotel is the lack of air conditioning in bedrooms and entertainment room.
However we would definately recommend the hotel and are going back next year!!!

Me and my partner stayed in the Hotel Chihuahuas (if that's how you spell it!) 13th - 20th September 05. Upon arrival, we were very happy with what the hotel generally looked like (if you look in most brocheres, the pool area is really great). We weren't sure whether we were staying in Hotel Mastines or Chihuahuas, and only found this out once we checked in at the Chihuahuas - and this is where we were allocated, the Chihuahuas.

The general reception area was nice and clean and pretty large, and we were greeted by friendly reception staff. We were on floor 4 of the Chihuahuas hotel and had a fantastic view of the Med Sea. To be honest, it was the pool grounds and the views that sold the holiday to me. I thought the stair case and the hallways (in particular the carpets) were very very dated (1970's, which funny enough is when they were built), and the walls looked like they really needed painting. So yeah, the corridors to the rooms on each floor needs alot of decor doing to it. Even our door frame was half hanging off.

I didn't think the room was much to be desired for either. It had that chipwood wallpaper and the furniture was pretty dated (by about 100 years), it literally looked like a bare room with a few pieces of funiture thrown in. Now, i have stayed at a Sol Melia chain hotel before (in Costa Del Sol), and the room was really nice and well furnished, plus it was a 3* hotel), so i was quite dissapointed when i saw this room - a big let down if you ask me. PLUS, there is no TV, Iron, Tea/Coffee facilities etc. You'd think for a 3* hotel (by the way, it's rated at a 3*+, which i think is hugely over rated compared to other 3* hotels i have stayed in), that they would at least have a TV (i say this because it rained for 3 days when we were there, and the entertainment was pretty poor, mostly aimed at kids, plus the resort was very quiet and limited with shops/entertainment).

The view was excellent though, and the days that did have beautiful weather, it was fantastic to sit on the balcony. The cleaning ladies were great, they made the bed every day and provided fresh towels (you have to leave them on the floor by the way in the bathroom if you want fresh ones).

Hotel Food - . Food ranged from, pizza, mussels, chicken nuggets, paella, pork chops, lamb chops and fish (there is a chef who cooks the fish/lamb chops/pork chops and english breakfasts cooked freshly in front of your eyes, rather than choosing food which has been sitting in a warm metal tray for 2 hours).
So the choice of food was great( endless amounts of chips by the way), but the puddings were very continental, didnt really like the cakes to be honest. I didnt know what was in them (there is no list of what each cake contains, so id be careful if you are allergic to nuts). English breakfast was great, 'proper' sausages, beans, boiled/srambled/fried eggs/bacon etc. On a few occasions though, i did find myself waiting for food to be ready/put out i.e. - if there were no chops left, i would have to wait another 15 mins before they were cooked by the chef. The only complimentary drinks was water/orange/apple juice of a morning, but not of an evening - you had to buy water if you wanted any with your tea/dinner.

Location - The location of the hotel was great. I could not fault that anyway. Right on the cliff edge overlooking the Med Sea and a 5 min walk away from 'Centro Commercial' (this is a bubdle of shops/little bars and a few restaurants huddled together - but very small). Theres a handy supermarket 1 min away.

The hotel was 'o.k', but i thought it was overated for a 3*+ hotel. It needs alot of cosmetic decor updating (carpets and walls), and the bedrooms in the Hotel Chihuahuas need alot more attention to detail when i comes to comfort. It really felt like i was staying in a self catering apartment (with no amenities), rather than a 'near 4 *' hotel.

Resort - I wouldn't go back again. Im 24 and my boyfriend is 28 and ok, we knew it was going to be alot quieter than Magaluf, but this was dissapointing. We didnt want a holiday like Magaluf by the way, we wanted a nice relaxing holiday, with plenty of entertainment (aimed at couples) - similar to Puerto Del Carmen, Lanzarote. The days that it did rain, we really, really struggled for stuff to do. The beach at 'Cala Domingos' was small, and on the days were it was hot, it was rammed packed, so you were literally lying next to someone you didnt know, that close. I noticed that the resort, in some certain parts of it, was quite scruffy with rubbish etc, but not too much of a concern.
Centro Commerical as mentioned is a huddle of shops (basically, shops that sell the typical bags, postcards, ciggies and booze, and when you have seen one shop, youve seen them all), a few bars (Central point was probably the best, aswell as O'Donnells and Tiffany's). And lots of cafe's, cheap looking restaurants. It would take you probably 30 mins to make your way around all the shops, because they are literally all compacted together. There is a Mini Golf which was good fun. I paid a visit to another resort called 'Cala Millor' and that was GREAT compared to Calas De Mallorca. a gorgeous long beach, hundreds of shops, bars and restaurants, and the hotels were fabulous too (mostly 4 *). Cala Millor id say was great for couples and families. Next time, id probably go to Alcudia or Puerta Pollensa.

Seriously though, this hotel is more for your OAP's, Families and couples over 40. If you want a bit more lively action, go to Cala Millor.

I stayed at the Chihauhas hotel in mid September.

This hotel is a 3 plus star in the brochures, which I believe is based on the location of where the hotel is,overlooking the sea with great views, and not the rooms and amenities.

On arrival I was given a nice welcome by the receptionist, thankfully check in went smooth because the weather was awful outside and I had just driven through 3 thunderstorms from the airport and was not feeling in a sunny holiday spirit.

I was given a top floor room (floor9) with a double bed, this was excellent seeing I booked a single room on the website.

I was also given the opportunity to go all inclusive at there sister hotel up the road (Sol Balmoral)for my meals if I wished, of course I took them up on their offer. Therefore, I could eat at either hotel but drinks with my evening meal was included at the Balmoral so I ate everynight there.

Food was good but not excellent, better if you go early on in the evening, you get first grabs at the freshly cooked food, by 8pm it was like a free for all and the resturant got very busy, go early!!!

As the last review said it was a hotel and resort for the older generation,I can see why the hotel gets repeat bookings from customers.

I wouldn`t go there again not because I didn`t enjoy it but simply not the right resort and hotel for me. Good recommendation from me is Playa de Palma on the south coast, went there nearly everyday, excellent beach, good bars, full of Germans not a bad thing, and close to the airport so not a long time getting there when you first arrive, hotels looked new and most looked either 4 or 5 star.

Having stayed in this Hotel {Chihuahuas}in September 2004 we were so impressed with the location, all the facilities, food and staff we decided to return in September 2005. What a mistake that was!

Last year the food could not be faulted, and consisted of an exellent salad bar, a sweet bar that can only be described as a dietitians nightmare and a carvery serving at least three meat dishes carved whilst you wait, and fish, perfect in every way.

This year the salad and sweet bars were just as good, but the carvery had gone, instead three meat dishes were on offer, fish every day, veal 9 times in 14 days, the third chicken burgers one day no thicker than a place mat, another day turkey kebabs, the skewers were as thick as the meat on them, pork slices another, not bad, one day breaded pork was on offer that turned out to be luncheon meat.

After complaining to the Manager the food did improve a little.

My advice would be,if you like salad and veal go to this Hotel,if not, don't.

We have stayed in Sol hotels many tomes and generally new what to expect. The interesting fact of this hotel is that the majority of people we spoke to had stayed at least once before....that says it all.

The hotel is very clean, good views from the rooms and you do get used to the fans as a form of air conditioning.

The food is good with a buffet selection for each sitting.

The biggest selling point of the hotel is the entertainment team. There are many activities for kids and adults during the day and the evening. The efforts put in by the team is incredible. For younger children the kids clubs are superb.

Only criticism would be the period of time left for dancing once the entertainment finishes (approx 45 mins)

Good hotel..highly recommended

The hotel is in a great location with fantastic views from most rooms overlooking the med.

Rooms are spacious and kept very clean, food is good and served in a very nice dining room which is also kept spotless.

There is entertainment during the day and at night for both children and adults. The entertainment team are very lively and very friendly.

The rooms have fans but could really do with air conditioning.

I would recommend this hotel for couples and families but not those looking for a wild fortnight as it is quite a lot quieter than Magaluf etc.
