If you don’t mind the noise from the main bar area in the evenings then the rooms close to reception/around the big main pool are ideal as their close to everything, pool, daytime entertainment, restaurant, reception, bar etc
Rooms further back behind the gym are better if you have smaller children and prefer not to be disturbed by the evening noise. The pools further back are quieter and the middle pool has a nice splash play area for younger children.
If you have rooms on the lower level you do hear footsteps of people walking around above you.

Meloneras seems to be a new upmarket resort, great for shopping, built onto the edge of Maspalomas. Very quiet - nightlife centred around restaurants. Beach is sand, stone and rocks. Very quiet. Great for crabbing and fishing - kids loved it. Maspalomas has lovely sandy beach and sand dunes. Good selection of restaurants and bars. Very family friendly.

The resort of Maspalomas is ideally situated if you want a relaxing chill out holiday. If you want busy and noisy then this isn't the place.
There are shops and bars within about 25mins walk and the Market is on Wed and Sat which again is about 25 mins walk. The taxis are plentiful and reasonably cheap.
The dunes are fantastic but be aware as a large section is a nudist area.
You can take a camel ride through the dunes for 12 euros for Adults which is really relaxing.
A lovely place to stay.

The beach and dunes were lovely. Be aware though that there is a lot (and we mean a lot) of nudist areas.

Very quiet in May 2010 but still very good value to be had in restaurants and bars although an awful lot have closed since our last visit to Maspalomas in Nov 2008. There are some excellent restaurants on the Maspalomas/Meloneras promenade The beach is exceptional and spotlessly clean, Taxis are very cheap 3 to 4 euros to the lighthouse or PDI. Very cosmopolitan area, German, Italian, Spanish, UK and Irish, and there's always some good entertainment to be had.

maspalomas is a mixed bag of fruit really. near my apartments it was a tip. but near the lighthouse (where all the money is its clean) the shopping center at faro 2 is not worth entering, as the bars ect are struggling so much they are nearly grabbing your cloths to get you to sit and spend your money there. every night me and my family had to get a taxi to PDI to eat out and for entertainment. around 4 euros each way. great nights in the yumbo center, although this is mainly a gay center we loved it and made many friends, the kasbah center is full of swingers and swing bars (not my scene) and the cita center is mainly catered for the Germans.

Maspalomas is on the Southern coast and close to the famous sandunes. It is a fairly quiet resort but provided you like a walk there are plenty of shops in Faro2 and towards the dunes! You have a variety of tourist shops and the east side of the lighthouse is quite cosmepoliton with prices to match.
The dunes lead down to the Atlantic and many days the sea was to rough to enter, the sand is cleaned daily and pleny of sun loungers and brollys can be hired, beware! If you are easily shocked then avoid the area designated for the Naturists! (scarey!) No discos except in the odd hotel if you want nighlife don't go here go along the coast, but if you want to chill which we did then go for it. Good tip! when yo go to reception ask for the 20 euro fridge deal where you get a few beers, coke, fanta and water and this you can then use the fridge for the 2 weeks, other wise they want 13.50 each week just for fridge loan! Once empty buy and put your own stuff in and save on the pool side prices!
