Won't have changed since you were there in June, and some of the excursions offered by Balkan Holidays are virtually identical from those offered 20 years ago.

The best are offered by your holiday rep, although not always the cheapest. However, you can rely on being insured and that the commentary will be in English.

An 18 hour trip to Veliko Tarnova (not booked through Balkan Holidays) with no English commentary was an almost never ending mystery tour, a mistake, and never again!!

However, as you will have noticed there are loads of taxi drivers offering day trips, find one with good English and negotiate a price.

Why not try Balchik it's an excellent place to view and the Gardens are amazing, they are also a number of good vine yards round about where you may be able to organise a trip online and then find a good taxi driver to take you.

Just wondering what the latest prices were for the day-trips from GS the Balkan Reps are offering now..? We have been on about 5 or 6 with them back in 05 and 06. Here are a few of the prices were were quoted back in 2006 for Aduls paying by cash..cc payments were a wee bit more.

Balkan Evening/Fiesta £18 or 52 leva. meal and all drinks inc..in 05 it was £17
Country and People £26 or 75 leva...full day trip..lunch and wine inc
Discover Bulgaria £25 or 73 leva...full day trip...lunch iand wine nc
Balchik and Kaliakra £16 or 46 leva...half day
Nessebar £13 or 38 leva...full day trip...in 05 it was £12

It would be great to know what prices they charged last year to gauge what we might expect thi June...anyone know...?

thanks in advance, regards jim.

Hi Jim,

Even at your 2006 prices, given the current slump of Sterling against the Euro/Lev, things will be more expensive (my examples are at today's Raiffeisen Bank rate of £1 = 2.18 Leva):

Balkan Evening/Fiesta £18 or 52 leva -------- 52 Leva = £23.86
Country and People £26 or 75 leva --------- 75 Leva = £34.42
Discover Bulgaria £25 or 73 leva --------- 73 Leva = £33.50
Balchik and Kaliakra £16 or 46 leva --------- 46 Leva = £21.11
Nessebar £13 or 38 leva --------- 38 Leva = £17.44

That's without anything added to account for inflation in Bulgaria.
