You cannot compare cleanliness in India to back home - so not going to try - just have to go with the flow and yes it could do with being spruced up but so what.

As far as entertainment goes - something for everyone within Candolim/Calungute area and the beach at Candolim is great and yes I will be visiting again!

Calangute is dirty, noisy and very busy but a good base to explore and the night life is good.

We have been to gGoa four times and have just re-booked to return again next month. We always stay in or around Calangute, using it as a base to travel various places around India.
We know a number of people in the area very well now and find that the people are very friendly, helpful and genuinely willing to help if you are ever doubtful of anything.

Would recommend Goa to anyone to try at least once, and have done. They are now confirmed Goa lovers too. Love it or hate it - India gets in your blood!

Stayed in Calangute which used to be a quiet little village
when we first started going there, which was its main attraction, but has now become densely crowded in the tourist season.

Avoiding traffic as you walk along the unpaved roads is one of the problems & also trying to avoid the over enthusiastic street sellers who push everything under your nose insisting that you really cant do without their particular item.

There is a cinema on the main street and a lot of the hotels have either a singer or a small band that plays most evenings.

Rubbish in the streets seems to be a problem even though the local cows eat most of the vegetable matter from the bins strategically placed every so often on the roadsides.

The beaches are naturally beautiful as most beaches are but they are becoming littered quite a lot with the overflow of tourists. Yet for all this the resort still retains a certain magic that seems to draw people back again and again, myself included, so it isnt all bad, just soak up the great laidback atmosphere and appreciate the fact that you cant get anything like this back home!!!

The resort of Baga and Calangute is very busy with lots of hustle & bustle going on.

The streets are lined with colourful Street Traders selling allsorts. Cows and dogs mingle freely with the people.

The Beach streches for miles and is well served by beach huts for refreshments and sunbeds. You can walk for ages either way along the beach. Anjuna market (Wednesday) is easy to reach on foot or Tuk-Tuk.

The nightlife is rich and varied and you can try wonderful foods from many different continents.

There are many trips/excursions run from this area. You might like to get away from the crowds and try a trip further north or to the idylic south.

Calangute is a really friendly place to stay, the beach is fine, and I have been there 7 times so far. I just love it but you don't really go to India for 'clean' you go for warmth, friendliness, different culture, and reasonable prices.

Candolim is always a pleasure to visit.

Make sure you try the Bob Marley shack. Great food, good company and lots of laughs.

Even though the hotel was rubbish the Goans make sure you soon put a smile back on your face.
