Returned to the hotel after 5 years. The first visit was I have to say amazing!!! Everything about the hotel was first class especially the food. This time sadly it wasn't so.

Hotel itself is spotlessly clean in EVERY respect. The problems with the road works are of course not the hotels fault, actually it's amazing no one who owns property around that area hasn't blown their stack, so to speak with the local authorities. It's terrible and has gone on FAR TOO LONG. They now have about half the resort "dug up" in both directions from the hotel! Back to the hotel.

I too was a little disappointed with the refurb. Frankly I think the only refurbed bits are the fire damage and a few concrete bits that were probably due to be renovated(the hotel is quite old).

The rooms are definitely the same!!! Same furniture, same bedspread and curtains!! and same floor tiles. Therefore if they have refurbed...they have done it exactly the same (not very imaginative!!)

The T.V. is terrible. 5 Spanish channels, 5 or 6 German, and we get BBC World News, CNN News and sky news. I ended up watching the Spanish Childrens T.V. cartoons!

Staff are still friendly and efficient.

Pool areas nice (always were) but they have TOOOOO many sunbeds! You can hear your neighbour breathing hahahaha!!

Seriously now, the food is not as good as it was. I agree totally about the vegetables. This might sound trivial, but it's really strange walking around and around trying to find something to compliment your fish/meat etc. when there are no "usual" veggies. ONE night we got Broc.and Cauli together! and I applauded the staff serving. Blank looks all round Shame as this was the hotel I have recommended so many times since my last visit and I am now undecided whether to return again. Frankly, I think the La Nina down the road spoilt me in July 05. Any good deals and I would certainly not knock it though!

We had been recommended this hotel and we were not disappointed. Being early December, the hotel was busy, but full.

All of the staff we met were very friendly, especially the entertainers.

The restaurant was large, being for a big hotel, but the tables were set out nicely and we enjoyed all of our meals.

The hotel location is ideal, being near to the beach, bars and shopping. The road works outside the hotel were horrendous, but fortunately we were allocated a room on the first floor which faced away from the building site.

We were so impressed that we have booked another holiday at the Bouganville Playa in May 2006.

This was our first time to Tenerife and it was brilliant.

The beach is lovely but then again everything is.

Its very clean and the food is lovely breakfast and evening meal.

The location is very good not far from the beach at all. The hotel as a whole is lovely and going at Christmas time must be a bonus.

The staff are excellent and very cheerful also the bar is very neat.

The room is also nice from our hotel we could see some Spanish houses the mountains also the massive sign of the Sol Tenerife hotel.

I would go again without a doubt

Hotel clean and staff excellent, location top of a hill, we were not informed of roadworks which are a pain ! work starts at 7.30am so be warned !!! this is a way off being finished, the food is excellent the only problem we had was it was the same every night apart from the meat ie chicken, lamb etc etc.

The entertainment is great daytime kids club brilliant.
Airtours are poor their rep was never there at his time slot.

Book your day trips with the hotel direct not the reps.

Have a great holiday we did and will be back.

Absolutely fantastic hotel. Always spotless.

Rooms cleaned everyday. Bedding changed every other day. Communal areas were being cleaned constantly. Greeted with glass of sparkling wine on arrival which cheered us up after the farcical transfer "arranged" by Thomas Cook.

Food was beautiful. More than enough choice to satisfy even the pickiest eaters. Show cooking every night (usually one meat and one fish dish), bottle of house wine was just over 8 euros.

Location is fab - we were warned by Thomas Cook about the roadworks outside but I can honestly say that this didn't bother us. We had a room directly facing the area being worked on. The men started work at 7.30am but as we were generally getting up at this time, it didn't really bother us. Noise could only be heard from the pool area on a very few occasions. No roadworks on a Saturday or Sunday (and I think they're not far from finishing it altogether).

Very close to the beach and there are plenty of shops/bars/restaurants but that said, we didn't feel like we were in the middle of a horribly busy resort.

The staff were so efficient it puts English restaurants to shame! Tables and restaurant area in general were always immaculate. Staff were friendly without being too "in your face" but were always willing to help in any way they could. Staff on reception spoke excellent English.

We didn't see much of the evening entertainment but what we did see was pretty much what you'd expect. Enjoyable after a few drinks, and the auditorium was always pretty full. Daytime entertainment was always well attended - aqua aerobics, rifle shooting, archery, darts, bowls, mini golf etc.Usually about 20 people attended each.

Entertainment crew would come round and inform you of what was happening and when, but they didn't hassle you if you didn't want to take part.

We both thought this hotel was absolutely excellent and wouldn't hesitate in coming here again.

I booked this hotel mainly based on the reviews I read on this site, so feel that I have to add comments as I mostly disagree with what has been written.

Greeted with a glass of sparkling wine - lovely - but also greeted by a lovely big cockroach within 5 minutes of being in the room, just before our cases were bought along by the bell boy whom I asked to remove it. He did not seem shocked by this and removed it by kicking it into the corridor and then treading on it. He then advised we change our room and needless to say did not hover for a tip ! We were moved to a high room, I think for obvious reasons. I would add that this was the only occasion we met a bug, but the damage was done.

Room was extremely basic, not what I would class as 4*. Beds cheap and uncomfortable. Shower was one of those connected to the bath taps, and went from being too hot to freezing constantly during a short shower -prompting loud unprintable outbursts from my husband by the 3rd day.

Hot food at best was mediocre. There was indeed plenty of choice, but meat was cheap cuts, fatty, and in some cases (from the grill) seemed to be 'rationed'. Best choice to me was the 'veggie' options (and we are big meat eaters) or salad.

Pool area was lovely, clean, and plenty of 'unreserved' sunbeds. However there are always some people that seem to think they have a right to first choice even if they do not appear until midday -if you fall into that category stop it NOW !!!!

People have mentioned the roadworks, and they were a pain in the neck. You could hear them all day long if you stayed around the pool area.

I have to say I would not stay hear again, based on food, it's very basic rooms. We stayed at the Vulcano a few years ago, and this hotel is not in the same class ....

We have been to this hotel before and enjoyed it as much this time as we did last time. We were greeted with sparkling wine and very friendly reception staff who speak very good English.

The hotel was very clean and the rooms were too. They were cleaned every day and towels/bedding were changed regularly too.

The food was good - not excellent, but good enough. There was a lot of choice and the waiters were so nice and funny.

With having a young child we didn't see the evening entertainment but we were always informed of what was going on and invited to come along. The entertainment in the day was fabulous. Lots to do and not badgered to take part if you didn't want to. Our son went along to the Kids Club and he loved it. The staff were absolutely brilliant with him.

We were pre-warned about the roadworks but please do not be put off by it. It is not a problem whatsoever! The pool area has been re-done since the last time we came and it is a lot better. There is plenty of room around the pool for everyone and we didn't experience any 'reserving' of beds. This area was also very clean.

All three of us thoroughly enjoyed our time there and there's no doubt that we will be returning there in the near future.

We've stayed in some nice hotels in Tenerife but this one will take some beating.

Its a massive hotel with extensive grounds and in a prime position on a rocky outcrop, with some fantastic views at no extra cost.

Each floor has a viewing platform, the best being in the attic at the very top of the hotel, there is also a solarium on the top floors.

There are two beautiful looking decent sized pools, which have just been refurbished. (one heated). Brand new sun beds which have handy armrests.

The hotel seemed full but we had no trouble getting sun beds, there was very little evidence of the traditional reserving of the sun beds, we were at the pool by 9 O'clock most days and we would be nearly on our own.

The most likely reason is, there is no prime spots to sunbath as you get the sun all day.

The food was very good as was the service, there was a nice little chap who waits on, I don't know his name but he looks like one of the chuckle brothers. we never had any trouble getting a table.

The rooms are decent enough although the furniture could do with a change and the bathroom is a bit small.

Some hotels tend to take your eyes out with the drinks and snacks, but this one seemed reasonable enough with a good array of lunches. if you don't want to lunch at the hotel there's bar restaurants near by with good food.

The entertainment is mostly in house and done by the entertainments team, not our cup of tea but did seem well attended.

This is a solid 4* hotel and if that is what you are after you are unlikely to be disappointed.

Greeted with a chilled glass of sparkiling wine on arrival - a small but welcoming start to the holiday. Reception area large and impressive as were other publc areas of the hotel.

5th floor room with a lateral sea view - did not ask or pay extra for this so pleased with that. Most rooms seem to have a similar view. Room plenty big enough for 2 with a good sized balcony. Furnishings and decor' fairly standard though the furnishings were a little marked in places and somewhat dated. Mini fridge supplied free of charge. No tea/coffee making facilites provided in room (we took our own - a life saver at times!!). Usual rip off charges for safe in room - when will hotels accept that safes are a must have not an optional luxury? Choice of english TV channels a little restricted. Ongoing road works outside of room generally not a major intrusion in respect of noise or dust though a little unsightly.

Food, as per other reviews, was excellent. A fantastic choice for both breakfast and dinner presented in a buffet style. Although the hotel appeared very busy no problems were experienced in finding a table at all times. Service was prompt and very courteous. Reasonable choice of drinks and prices OK. Food was the highlight of the holiday.

Pool area very busy at most times. Design of the pool area lacked a little imagination (certainly not one of your free form feature pools)though functional. Plenty of sunbeds though I am afraid to say the "reservation system" using towels and books etc. was very much in operation. Apologies, but if you cannot beat them you have to join them, to secure a "good spot". Gym can only be described as a token effort - no air conditioning.

The hotel entertainment we only score an average. We tried the evening entertainment a few times and decided to go outside of the hotel to the likes of the Star Bar or the Pheasant Plucker immediately across the road from hotel.

In summary we were very pleased with this hotel and have no hesitation in recommending the Bouganville.

This Hotel was one of if not the best we have stayed in abroad.

After our no extra charge private transfer from the airport we were greeted with a welcome glass of champagne in the spacious reception by the friendly staff.

The Hotel throughout was very clean, tidy and spacious and all the staff, particularly Domingo our waiter were extremely friendly and helpful.

The best part was the food, ample selection and excellent quality, even the most fussiest eater around (our 6 year old son) was helping himself at the Buffet!!

We were warned in advance about roadworks outside the hotel, but they never really had any impact on us, particularly as the back gate out of the hotel towards the beach bypassed them all.

We didn't see too much of the entertainment in the hotel (other than the nightly mini disco!!), but what we did see was ok.

I would have no hesitation in coming back to this hotel again and are already thinking about it for next year!!
