it is about five years since being in Krakow. it is a lovely university city, very clean. it seems very cheap to live and eat out there. at that time not many people spoke english. more cosmopolitan people seem to work and come into the city but the outlying areas are very poor. the farming is done by hand, no tractors etc. we had a trip to the mountains and found the further you went away from the cities, the poorer people were. teachers were getting not much more than £40 a week. i dont know about purchasing property there. it must be cheap.
