Cheap and cheerful aparthotel

Thought I would put an updated review on HT as previous reviews are quite old.

We stayed in a studio which was quite big, most of the studios are on the lower ground floor, but I e-mailed requesting a higher floor so was allocated 405 next to reception, (still only on ground level) this had a lovely sea view, so we were pleased with the studio which was equipped with all the necessary items for a self catering holiday.

The cleaners came in every other day, the whole of the accommodation was kept clean. The sun terrace looked a little bit tired, sunbeds looked a bit grubby but only due to wear and tear. The pool was small and the tiles were broken in places, but kept clean, we spent time on the beach and didn't use the terrace often. There were always sun beds available, not enough parasols though.

The apartments are up lots of steps which have lighting (still felt eerie), this can be hard going, but you did get used to it or alternatively a taxi was 4 euros from the old town to apartments.

Staff were all very pleasant. This is a 3* accommodation and was suitable for us as a couple.

For a cheap and cheerful holiday I would recommend the Cerro Malpique, we would go again.

We were allocated room 304, on seeing it was disappointing there was a worn brown carpet in the living room come bedroom, the cleaners mopped this with a wet mop which gave off a damp smell. We could not sit on the balcony as the drain directly below us gave off an awful smell. We went to reception to complain but were told there were no other apartments. Went back the next day and told them we would not stay there as the drain had not been fixed, the receptionist said she could smell it as well. We got a phone call that night and were told there was another apartment which was great, bigger and more up to date with a sea view. We were very happy. Pool very quiet which was great but never got cleaned all week and I kept picking up loose tiles .the hundred steps are hard for me but not for my husband who is fit. If you want a quiet hotel this is great and the old town was brill would go to this hotel again but make sure I don’t get that room, which has carpets in apartments this day and age.

We booked our rooms through thomascook and our flights with Globespan. When we arrived at the Cerro Malpique 11 Apts the staff were very helpful, they helped to carry our cases to our aprts and supplied us with maps and advice on getting around. The aprts were spotless and the cleaners came in every day always very cheery. The apts must be the largest i have seen, the balconies were massive plus we had a sun terrace of our own.I must admit the location of the aprts at the top of a steep hill was a bit of a minus but there is a very regular bus service that stops just next to the aprts which runs from the old town centre getting down to the centre is only a five minuet walk

After tavelling abroad for three decades Cerro Malpique 2 was a real find. The apartment was very well suited to our needs, and were kept spotless by the cleaning staff. Our apartment had three balconies to laze about on or eat alfresco.

There is no bar (no late noise), though the old town centre of Albufeira is a five minute stroll downhill, it is a little bit of climb back up(taxi's are cheap enough).

Reception is at the nearby malpique 1, and we found the staff to be helpfull and friendly.

The kids loved it as the pool was not crowded and it was again a short stroll to the beach. All in all a nice relaxing holiday and we will be going again.

We arrived at the hotel the weather was nice. Although it was on the top of a hill so every night we went out it would take ages to get up the hill.

I have never been away before where there was not a bar all they had was a few cans of beer behind recption which were walm.

The pool was not that big.

The staff were not helpful at all.

The only good thing about the holiday was when we went to recption to change out travelers cheque we gave the lady

Stayed at Cerro Malpique II, fantastic apartment, one of the best i've stayed in and I have been travelling for over 25 years.

Location a problem if you're either elderly or have walking difficulties as it is on top of a hill. That aside, for a couple "perfect"

Very peaceful and relaxing, staff were very pleasant unlike some of the reports I had before we travelled. Room was cleaned to a high standard Mon - Fri.

Overall I would highly recommend for couples or families but not elderly.

Cerro Malpique II wasn't the 4star accomodation advertised by direct holidays. It is the first time I have been anywhere, where there is no bar (unless you count reception with stale wine, warm beer, etc). Besides there being no bar there was no restaurant nor entertainment.

The location was terrible at the top of "heart attack hill" and there was only one restaurant and shop in the vicinity, nightmare!!

Staff were rude and very unfriendly.
